Competitive FPS help

Thread Starter
Hey all, I've decided I want to get back into the competitive scene. I used to play Halo in some amateur tournies and actually did pretty well, same goes for MW2 (console rolleyes.gif ) and BF3 on PC. But since I've moved over to PC and don't really foresee a good reason to go back I've had trouble finding an FPS that I want to start dumping time into. So far I've tried CS, Quake Live, Tribes, TF2, BF3 (not really competitive lol), and Promod. I do well in all 6 but was wondering (kind of hoping) that there were some good ones that I missed or haven't tried yet that are still competitive. I don't have a problem with putting in the time and effort as I have before. I'm just looking for the right game..feels like I'm looking for a new girlfriend lol. If there isn't any others that are still competitive I'm probably leaning towards Promod but even it seems to be dying.

TLDR: Looking for new competitive FPS that isn't CS, Tribes, Quake Live, TF2, BF3, or Promod

Thanks in advance and rep will be distributed where necessary thumb.gif

waits on dMaster..

I wouldn't consider halo, MW3 or BF3 as 'competative' as they do not attract excellent players, but that's beside the point.

Tribes is the only other suggestion I'd have, but quakelive and CS1.6 are where you'll find the best players.

Besides what you played I can think of a few but they're all going to have much smaller communities around them, like warsow, xonotic, q3cpma, etc (I like arena shooters). Hell, there's still a handful of people that duel in Painkiller.

But if you're looking for a large competitive scene, you pretty much named them already.

I was afraid of that. You'd think with all the FPS's on the market that more of them would be at least somewhat competitive.

It's only the "twitch" shooters that are taken seriously in the competative scene, to be honest. They typically have a higher skill ceiling than the CoDs and BFs.

In fact, when the Q3 players I know played CoD for the first time they just ripped it up and got accused of botting. If this were the other way around (CoD player plays Q3 for the first time) I would hedge a bet that the CoD player would be ripped to shreds.

I could be wrong, though.

I'd agree for most of the modern CoDs, but Promod was half-decent. Not quite the ceiling of Q3 of course, but higher than anything more current.

I played CS a lot before really getting into CoD and I kind of had the same issue. Looks like I'll go back to it or Promod. Thanks for the help guys +reps
