[Toms Hardware] Diablo III Performance, Benchmarked - Page 6

Apart from that, developers almost always introduce patches to fix performance issues. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few months time the game runs even smoother
for people with low-end hardware.

I remember Blizzard stating on the Beta forum, when some of the other testers experienced issues, that the beta client wasn't nearly as optimized as retail. That retail will smooth out a lot of the issues some of the other testers had, as well as make things a little more pretty. The only time I had any issue with micro-stuttering was when V-sync was turned off, with it on everything ran very smoothly, but with it off it stuttered.

So here is to D3 in a week, and hopefully it is a smooth launch!

This looks like a really well-coded game to me. I'm also impressed at the performance numbers with AMD cpus (good minimum frames and scaling with of minimum frames with overclocking!). I would have expected the starcraft II effect, where they pose a massive bottleneck to the game.

*At great risk of sounding like a fanboy*

Blizzard has typically had very smooth performing games right out of the box and compared to others their launches tend to be smooth.

D3 Beta, especially towards the end was more a test of their back-end hardware than the game client.

Just did a happy dance when I read this. 2x 6850s in Xfire performs fantastically. Gives me a little more time before the upgrade. biggrin.gif

Im pretty sure one 6850 would perform fantastically, this doesnt seem very intensive at all.

I have no doubt that the beta was unoptimized. Since it was a locked portion of the game and not a full open beta like some other games, it made no sense for Blizzard to focus their efforts on keeping a 100% up-to-date demo while they were trying to actually release the full game. Major changes obviously made it in, but I doubt a lot of the optimization and little bug fixes were bothered with. I have no doubt the retail game will be much smoother than the open beta was.

Smooth launch though? I dunno. There's going to be a LOT of server traffic at midnight PDT. I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that between picking up the retail version at midnight and doing the whole line thing and the server traffic there's a distinct chance I will not get to actually play the game until 2am.

Must be a slow day over there...

D3 is one of the most popular new games out right now. It is good to know if an older computer can play D3 comfortably.

Blizzard's philosophy is that good game should be timeless. Technical graphic doesn't age well, a good looking game 10 year ago look like trash today, instead they stylize over realism. In Diablo 3 the many asset in the background are painted.
