Great headphones for 200 dollars - Page 3

Fostex T50RP for $74 from B&H Photo. You will likely need to buy a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter depending on what you're using for a source because they have a 1/4" termination only.

Those are $129.99 at B&H. Might as well get the sony mdrzx700's for the same price.

You have to add them to your cart to see the price. Free shipping, also.

2. cmoy amp 9vx2
3. A good case for the headphones
Any users of Beyerdynamic DT990 open 250ohm want to share their feedback? Would I be better off with Seinheisser or AKG or Grado? Im jumping from generics to high-end so I was hoping i'd get the best one out there for my budget. I can bump it up slightly to accomodate a better headphone if the difference is significant in performance.

At 250ohm I'm pretty sure you'll need an amp to power them. Don't think they will get enough power straight from your macbook.

That's a great setup!

I think comparing the beyers, senns, AKGs and Grados would be the best bet if possible. Jumping from generics to this level, any of these will sound much better than what you were using and at this point it becomes your preference combined with what kind of music you will be listening.

I personally have the Grados, but don't rely on them for mastering music because they seem to favor the high end. They are really good for bass heavy music because they bring out the high end. But if you like the bass so heavy that they rattle your teeth, you might want to look at the beyers or AKGs.

I have heard really good things about AKG 701/702s and you can probably find a used pair for around $200.

A Beyer would fit very well. Especially the DT770's. Anything 80 ohm or above would be fine but make sure you have done research on an amp that can drive what you get.

Good tracks is also important.

What device are you using with them?

Are you gonna need a DAC?

I will say again, I love my Fostex T50RP. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Thread Starter
I had something that sidetracked me and I had to give up on the headphone search for a while but im back with a healthy budget of $1000 for headphones and ive done tons of research. For the amp, I purchased the Bottlehead Crack + Speedball upgrade(special offer 300$ for both). Now for the headphones, I was thinking about the Sennheiser HD 650 or the Beyerdynamic T1. For the DAC, I was looking at the ODAC separately(So i can use it with the Crack) or the ODAC+O2 combo(for portable use when im moving around). Any thoughts?

HD650 + ODAC + O2 would make for a killer classical music system.
Enough said.

EDIT: I use my Titanium HD + O2 and HD650's. Its to die for with 96khz/24-bit music. The O2 will drive 600ohm Beyer's and AKG 701's further down the road smile.gif
