I got the expansion pack as well, when there was the 50% off sale. Got it for $7.5. I guess there is no "zero hacker" game out there. I am playing MW3 and it is pretty bad. Always run into at least one hacker every night, mostly aimbot and wall hack. Based on this article, I guess the hacks on BF3 is more sophisticated.

BF3 hacks are not more sophisticated at all, they're all practically the same for every single game out there.

^ This is so true. The cheating mechanism mentioned in the blog/OP is nothing more than what was used back in the day on CS 1.0 and later. Same principles, similar methods, and same results: MASSIVE CHEATING.

Difference now is it's harder to find decent cheats for free.

If it is the same, why can't the dev fix the problem?

Because while the end-effects are the same or similar (what the users gets), the modifications needed to make that happen are probably completely different from game-to-game, engine-to-engine, platform, etc.

Beyond that I would also imagine that it's like anything else in the digital world - anything can be stolen / modified / hacked.

JIT can only improve the performance of code execution. It would still be far of using a proper language for that type if application, especially for D3D hooking etc. I see no gain at all to using Java for writing a hack-tool. Tho I am sure since java is interpreted and it runs in its own little virtual environment, this maybe a step forward to easily bypassing a anti-cheat system such as PunkBuster. As developers don't expect people to be compiling hack-tools in java, its very rare to see.
