This was a great read. Thanks for posting it. The radar hack seems more prevalent now that I think back on some games I've played where I was unable to sneak up on people at all for the entire game when I clearly should have been.

Correct. Client sided hit detection with no server verification. Why they don't use server verification probably has to do with the fact they want to keep server rental costs down. Little resource on the servers, cheaper gameserver providers can rent them out to users.

Easy fix: make the killcam a true damn killcam, where you see your predator ACTUALLY KILLING you, rather than see his current position after the kill already took place. That would let more people record a quick clip showing an obvious cheater. Implement a simple, user-friendly system where you can "record" a killcam and voila, you're set for a huge decline in cheaters. This, of course, would also require that EA/DICE actually get on the damn game and ban the cheaters. If I were a game company, I'd wipe out accounts of cheaters, not just ban them from that particular game that they cheated on. I don't want cheaters playing my games.

My proposed killcam would begin ~2 seconds before you were ever on their screen, and immediately end upon your death. Another easy solution would be to play the killcam with night vision or thermal vision on. That would make it pretty difficult for you to shout out their exact position to your friends.

Yea, the current killcam is rather worthless in that regard. Why do I want to see my killer picking his nose after he's killed me?

Not what i'm talking about. I'm talking about how the killcam is not a effective way of determining a cheater.

Considering what BF3 is on, hardware wise, I have to disagree you'd need any more of an actual server...We're not talking an apache/Ubuntu based server here...They're using the high end HP based Nginx servers.

It's not a matter of the server detecting the player...It's more/less a matter of Dice actually caring enough to code in that detection and prevent hacking.

So, they have the hardware...Just not the intelligence/will to actually follow through.
