AC duct directly on side panel fan - Page 2

To my surprise, it made temps rise.

I think because the air would blow all into the case into the cpu and exhaust.
The fan sure slows it down, but at least it blows it into the gpus rather than all over.

Temps went up by a few degrees.

I would put the fan sideways at different angles to push the air all over the case to mix it up. You could be having dead flow spots. If one is on a thermal sensor, it would read hotter of course. You may also want to make sure the floor ducting does not get warm after the AC turns off. This would easily happen if the insulation is poor on the tubing under the floor and else where. Be easy to spot, have your hand over the ducting just before the ac kicks on. If the air is warmer then ambient on the first second or few, you know your ducting is taking in thermal energy.

I modified a Antec 1200 for bottom air intake (and bottom radiator mounting).I had the 1200 up on wheels so I just parked it on top of the AC outlet. This mod. did wonders for my temps.

That is awesome dude! Right on top of the AC, very nice!

What about condensation, did that happen, or do I just not understand what condensation is?

The air from a refridgerated AC system is very dry air so that helps.Condensation comes when the moisture content in the air is just right and the temperature differental is within a certain range (the difference in the cold refridgerated air and the warm parts in the computer.

You need to calculate dew point. It is directly related to humidity and temperature.

So say you have a humidity of 100% and 23c ambient, then dew point is directly below ambient; 22c.

Now if your humidity is at 0% and your ambient is 23c, then your dew point is -65c. But you can't have 0% humidity.... =P

The thing about A/C's is they also act as a de-humidifier in most cases. So if you have say 23c ambient with 40% humidity (probably less) then you're dew point is 9c.

Here's a linky to a dew point calc.

LINKY

Don't worry about A/C, it's not going to cause any condensation any time soon. Unless you're ambients go up to the 30's with high humidity and you all of a sudden crank the A/C to max and stick the puter on it.

I did something similar with a mesh grille case and a cardboard 24 pack beer case. Opened one end of the beer case, cut square hole in the bottom of the case the same dimensions as the metal floor register on the AC vent, stuck metal register inside the box with the bottom of it protruding through the hole. Stuck it into the AC vent and scooted my case up to the open end of the beer case and it basically covered the whole front of my case and crammed cold air in with pretty decent force. Was able to reach 9C on a Socket 939 Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with a 20% OC and never had any condensation problems.
