G.Skill ram and AMD. Need help please!

Thread Starter
I just bought a new computer and I looked at the packaging for the G.Skill ripjaws ram and it said "Designed fir the 2nd Generation Intel core processor family and intel Z68 and P67 platforms."

It also says "G.skill ram is designed specifically for the 2nd generation intel core procressors. Every single Ripjaw memory kit is hand tested on an intel 1155 platform....."

Does this mean the ram is only used on Intel processors? I currently have it installed in my system now but Ive been having problems with blue screens of death and driver issues. I just returned my ram for the exact same g.skill ripjaws to see if that was the problem.

Here are my products.

RAM: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820231314

CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16819103727

Mobo: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16813157262

EDIT: I have an AMD processor.

If you check the Details (on newegg) it states:

Compatible with Intel LGA1155/LGA1156 and AMD AM3/Llano/AM3+ platforms
Intel XMP support for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors

I used a similar set of Ripjaws in my Phenom II 965, same timing and volt, its running fine in the Intel rig now. AMD you'll most likely just have to set the timings manually.

Your golden, just advertising bs. You might just have gotten a bad stick with your first set of ram (regarding blue screen) it happens to everyone at some point. Good luck thumb.gif

It will work, but I've had bad experiences with G-Skill. I've had two different sets go bad within two years, and of the ones that have worked fine thus far, have noticed that they are very poor overclockers.

As a Canadian, the last thing you want to do is to be buying overpriced items with overpriced shipping from Newegg.ca.  Limit your orders there - few times if ever it's worth buying there because the deals are just always more favourable from actual Canadian retailers that ship within Canada.  Popular retailers include NCIX, CanadaComputers, MemoryExpress, etc.

You can save a lot of money as a result of less expensive shipping for one; but many Canadian retailers including NCIX and MemoryExpress can price match to other stores including Newegg.ca - ensuring that you always get the lowest prices.

The same RAM kit you want costs only $49 at NCIX and there are even less expensive 2x4GB DDR3-1600 kits like this $45 Corsair Vengeance kit.  The 965 costs just $110 at NCIX.  You're also paying a lot $140 + shipping for a motherboard I do not consider to be worth that price.  You can get the GA-990XA-UD3, which offers equal features for the most part but also a better (8+2 phase) VRM system, for $139 shipped/$129 after rebate - less than the Extreme4.

Close to $30 saved already.... you could use the headroom and go Phenom II x6 1045T
