Does it matter though, since Apple does rightfully own the trademark?

I am not sure if they actually own the trademark or just license it from Cisco. At one point they were talking licensing since Cisco did not want to relinquish the rights to the name. Not sure if they eventually sold the rights to it though.

For me it's a matter of first come, first served.

Apple got there second so they decide to cry and bully there way into getting what they want?

Pathetic.....

I'm surprised people don't understand what domain names mean, and the fact that many people speculate on those only to cash in later on. Imagine you create a brand/product/technology and, thus, create your own trademark...and a proper domain for it. Should you register all possible domains that would resemble yours in any possible way? Its impossible to do so and, why should do?

The fact of the matter is that people use famous and well-known names for their domain names basically because it gets free publicity, and thus you are using somebody else work in your own favor. So, you may or may not like Apple, as well as you may or may not like Iphone, but the fact of the matter is that any domain name containing the word "Iphone" is (unless proven otherwise) trying to benefit from a very known product for their own sake.

Now, if we changed such Apple product with "SamsungGS5.com", what would you say? The fact of the matter is that profiting from somebody elses work is not fair, and shouldn't be allowed in any way, nor should the owner of the copyright have any need to copyright any possible domain name related to their product, as it would be simply impossible to do so.

No, it doesn't. If you take in mind the quantity of hits (in comparison to their normal hits) Apple could gain thanks to a web like Iphone5 and the quantity of hits that such web could get if he weren't uisng such name would be SO different that it totally proves my point. 3000 extra daily hits for Apple means nothing...those same hits for a web that may have nothing good in it but its name is a lot.

I'd say ... Oh dayum Sammy sucks to be you ..... now pay up. biggrin.gif
And that goes to any BIG company that doesn't take care of their business properly , i put emphasis on BIG , because it's not like Apple can't afford it.
Apple should have secure that domain first but since they didn't they should buy it out or move on.
