Less Memory Vs More Memory Sticks

Thread Starter
Okay so I have now decided to start putting together a specification for my new Ivy Bridge machine.

What I want to determine is if I wanted to installed 12GB in my machine is it better to have the following

3x 4GB or
6x 2GB

What would be the reason behind your choice and theoretically which will perform better than the other?

your best off getting 2 by 4GB sticks if your an average user or 4 x 4GB sticks if you need 16Gb or maybe use a RAMdisk.. you could even look at 2 x 8GB sticks as well.. anyhow you will maintain dual channel see below for info on channeling..

Thanks for your help buddy. I spend virtually most of my work life and my free time on my pc so I am a fairly heavy user and I will need 16gb... depending on the 8gb I will look into the costs of it.

nps,
some sugestions on RAM
if you want RAM that will overclock like a beast, these Samsungs have slowly proven themselves
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3V4G3-US/dp/B0059200FY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1336430518&sr=8-5

or for IB for IB you could easliy look at 1866, 2133 or higher kits from G.Skill, Corsiar, Munshkin ADATA or many other reputable companies..

although anything over 1600MHz is not really much difference in the real world.. but more so in benching..
even my G.Skill ripjawsX 1600 CL8 are pretty fast at stock
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445

440

but in the end choose something you like as there are so many choices of great RAM out there smile.gif
