Are these worth upgrading over the Sennheiser HD 555's? I don't want to buy a pair of diddy beats or some crap like that.

These are not anywhere even close to beats. They would be a nice upgrade over the 555s.

Consider the recessed mids and the harsh highs.

Though it is hard to argue with 320 dollars.

But consider the HE-300 or HE400 for 20 dollars less and 80 dollars more.

If you buy the Pro 900s, you're doing so for the bass.

And that's about it. Yeah, they can be used for gaming..but recessed mids and gaming..ehh..not my cup of tea.

I think it's more to replace my PRO550 as an upgrade. I have an HD600 for mids.

I think the PRO 900s are an amazing pair of portable headphones. Comfortable, sexy, light, isolates, and stays on the head.

They are so much better than the PRO 550s I can't put into words. The fact that I enjoy listening to them almost as much as my LCD-2 says something. They are best with Electric and Rock music, IMO, but piano bands like Coldplay and Bed Fold's Five sound great as well. No pop/rock song is bad on these.

Right now, I think I am going to order both a Moon Audio Silver and Blue Dragon cable. The Blue (Copper) gives the the bass crazy quality and improves everything with a close sound, while the Silver makes the bass tamer but more detailed and makes everything more clear with a laid back sound (The Black Dragon is the same as the Blue but also adds bottom end, which is not needed on the 900s). Judging from reviews, both have their pluses and minuses so I have no idea which one will sound best with my portable player. Will test them out for a month and send one back (with no restock fee).

That Amazon store has three left. I really like them. thumbsupsmiley.png

Do the 900's need an amp to drive? I can crank my 550's pretty dang loud with my x-fi hd, but definitely could go louder.

Yes. I mean, out of my Titanium HD, it sounds really good but not loud, just like my 550. Out of my RoCoo P, which is a small portable player with a amp inside, it sounds better and louder, really nice. It sounds good out of my V200, which is a $1000 amp. People said they think the V200 could be the perfect amp for it but I don't know. It sounds a little better than the RoCoo P but if you put it any louder it sounds very harsh. It's not much better than the RoCoo's amp.

If you buy a 900, you should also buy the highest quality FiiO amp you can afford, such as the e11 or e17. I've never heard them but they are awesome with the 900, I've read.

Sweet. Hopefully one day when I decide to upgrade to these I can find a good amp for it as well. smile.gif
