I have 2 3.5" drive bays at the front, one of which I have spare. What if I drilled the holes on the sides, and either took out the 3.5" panel or modified it in some way?

And that is a crazy setup Robilar!
I would see what you could do to improve your airflow w/o cutting or drilling first. As fun as tearing stuff up with power tools can be, it might be prudent to attempt a mod that is reversible. Remember, you want to try to have the "straightest" line of flow for the air, try to avoid multiple "S"'s or directional changes.

Haha, I've never seen one either.
I havent got a huge overclock going, so a 120mm fan up the top might be a bit overkill (at the moment anyway), but I like the idea of the 4 front case fans
Ive already got 2 80mm coolermaster fans mounted in the rear. I was thinking about getting a better case, but if I can mod this one, I might stick with it

The only thing that would prevent a straight line air flow in my case, is the 2 hard drives you can see in the first picture. Other than that, the air could come in the bottom, then exit under the psu where the 2 case fans are

You could do something different and mount the front four 80's do go out, and the rear two 80's to pull air in. You would probably get better temps too since the air would be cooler than coming in over your hard drives.

Thats actually a really good idea, but that might depend on how well I can mod the front of the case to get the hot air out, otherwise it might just recirculate

It will look butt ugly, but with almost all cases, the front panel comes off.
