Finally got around to building a quad tec Direct Die Block for the LGA 1155 Platform.. I think the new Ivy Bridge processors are going to love this block..

Testing to come:

4x40mm? That will enable sub-zero cold plate temperature on IB thumb.gif
Nice work! BTW Is that a penguin you carved on the cover?

It is a penguin.. lol.. just messing around .. I figured I throw in a couple leds and see if I could get it to glow.

they are 4x40mm 225watt 199 couple 24v tecs.

That would give an theoretical 900 watths qmax.. lol..

But in reality it gives the option to run off the psu and get a decent cop.

LED will be nice! They say IB has lower power consumption. It seems you will be the first to find out with a TEC setup.
I almost went with 4x40mm but didn't want to deal with hard mounting from the back. Is it secure to mount without spring? I was afraid too much pressure is applied on CPU.
I am very much looking forward to your testing result

Mounting is secure but it definitely takes a little more time to get the block to seat correctly.

Depends on if you want to run the block with a controller to keep it above dew point. I'll run a few test all out which would require insulation.

Any of my tec setups will go subzero on a processor at idle. My goals have never been subzero but subambient and above dew point. But yes this will go sub zero on an Ivy Bridge.

A few initial tests looks real promising.. I need to run it on straight water to give me an idea where the block stands, but it looks like this block will do ~30Âșc dt from normal water cooling @ 4.8ghz, but I'm still collecting data.

Excited to see how this turns out! And the penguin is a nice touch - Linux? wink.gif

The most important question, of course, is: will this be for sale? smile.gif

Some Initial Results:

Wow what a wanky ars chip I got.. So I wanted to get a baseline and an overclock on the chip.. well the chip wouldn't even boot at 4.8ghz on water so I did a baseline on water on this chip stock.. wow cores are hot at stock on water!!

Note ambient is about 30Âșc here in the desert

338

Best I could overclock this chip on water was about 4ghz

Unfortunately I couldn't get a good oc baseline at 4.8ghz (wouldn't boot) on straight water so I turned to the new tec block for a baseline at stock speeds on the chip.. core temps are bizzare for the cores 2 & 3 and you might say it needs to be reseated but as I overclocked it the temps came in line so the stock heatspread is wierd in some respect.

338

Interesting with the tec block.. the cpu was just fine at 4.8ghz.

338

I did get it to boot at 5.0 ghz but very unstable..

Conclusions:
The ivy chip loves the lower temps this block gives it.

I think I'm going to throw a sandy bridge chip in to see how that fairs..

More results as I get them
