Quad Tec Direct Die Block on the Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge (I5 3570K and 2500k Tested) - Page 6

Thread Starter
I'm more concerned about the block and what it will do with a "BAD" 2500k then the cpu itself, and a good test run for worst case scenarios
post #52 of 64
a) are these for sale?
b) where does all the heat go...

The heat goes directly into the waterblock and is exhausted out of the radiator.

Too bad you don't have a better 2500k...i'd love to see the temps at 1.6v @ 5.4ghz but judging by this, theyd probably never break 50. Makes me laugh at intel's stock cooler, of which my 2500k gets to 80c @ 4.2ghz

How much power does this draw? Will it run off the pci-e cable like the single TEC cooler?

Will a single Feser monsta 360 rad enough to exhaust that much load?

Pricing and availability for i7-3770k users?

Heat Transfer and Power Consumption @ 12V

0dt: 652W Pmax: 374W
10dt: 500W Pmax: 355W
20dt: 340W Pmax: 336W
30dt: 200W Pmax: 312W
40dt: 68W Pmax: 302W
50dt: n/a Pmax: n/a

Max Running Current: 31.2A
Compatibility: LGA1155

A 360 Monsta Rad is probably enough if the fans are very high static pressure. Even better if in Push/Pull. I currently run 2 TFC X-Changers in push, and my TEC Block and CPU are pumping about 700W into the air.

If you get the controller, it is designed to accept power from a 6pin PCIe Cable.

EDIT: Added more "exact" numbers. As exact as the charts will allow me to get.

I don't want to jump a conclusion but it seems like the water temps got too high from the load of the Quad.

210W (GPU), depending on the stock voltage of your CPU it could be 150W - 180W. And then 300W for the Quad, gives a total of 660W - 690W for the rads to remove. That doesn't sound out of the ability of the radiators, but the water temp might have gotten so warm, that the block might have been high enough that the CPU's thermal resistance made core temps just shoot too high.

That the +300W from the block and the 34°C ambient seems like it pushed it over the edge.

EDIT:

I calculated (using this review to find the c/w of the radiators) water temp with the Quad Block at like 59.9°C (assuming you are using 1500rpm fans). That would give about (assuming the CPU load is 150W) 41°C or so Delta for the block, putting you at 17.9°C.
Without the block, I get a calculated water temp of 47.9°C.

Even with the heat generated from the block, it is still mathematically able to out preform your watercooling only solution. The only way I can think it wouldn't is because you were running with the humidity sensor on or there was a TEC failure.

You must have broken off a wire while insulating.. There is no way that quad is performing correctly. Either that or you need to reseat the block.
