A Switch 810 Build Log "White Lightning"

Thread Starter
I am preparing myself to rebuild my current rig into a new Switch 810 with some upgrades here and there as well as mods.

My current set up is as follows
i7 950 @ 4ghz.
Gigabyte UD3R x58 Motherboard
MSI Gtx 560 Ti Sli @950Mhz
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Triple channel kit.
Corsair TX750 Watt PSU
Crucial M4 64GB
Samsung spinpoint f3 500GB
All Housed in my Cooler Master 690 II advanced.

I have bought two cooler master cases, while both were nice they both seemed lacking in some stuff that seems more modern, like proper fan filters, and grommets. I know theres a newer version of the 690 and while I did like the case I want something bigger.

The plans for the new rig.
All of my current parts are a combination of blues, white, silver so I figured the switch 810 would look great, along with some white fans and eventually silver/white/blue sleeving.

White Switch 810 w/ all 140mm NZXT airflow fans. This will give the case a nice uniform white look.
Sycthe Kaze Master Pro Fan controller
i7 950
Gigabyte UD3R
Corsair Dominator WHITE LP 2 x 4 GB Kit
Seasonic x750 Gold Power Supply
same drives.

The Ram, Case and Power Supply will be immediate upgrades. I will eventually be getting A haswell motherboard/processor and hopefully two gtx 670's if mine sell.

Because the primary color inside the case will be white the computer will have a great effect with some lightning. I am thinking about getting the Phobya RGB Lighting system, which is basically a set of leds strung together that with a IR remote can change colors. shown in this
Possible mods will probably be something with a acrylic power supply cover in solid white, and some sleeving although I may not have the time and may contact lutro customs on our site here for some sleeving.

I love the cases with white themes and white interiors because the way colors bounce off the white just look great.

Comparsion shot to my dirty 690 II Advanced

tearing apart the 690 ii, its really dirty i know
448

pics of the video cards, they weren't as dusty as my power supply and motherboard
448

motherboard and hyper 212+ heatsink freshly cleaned as well as the noiseblocker XLP

448

mounted the motherboard and video cards, can't wait for some sleeving but not sure what colors i'll do. Thinking about silver and blue or possibly all white.

448

and I found a cool spot for my ssd, but it may be a tight fit for the sata power I will have to check with the newer psu on friday.

Cables are currently a MESS because I have a seasonic x750 coming on friday, no use in trying to manage the mess that is a nonmodular psu.

Upcoming Plans

- Install the Seasonic x750 gold
- Purchase another white nzxt white led strip or purchase the phoybya flex light leds and ir remote
- Purchase another nzxt 140mm white fan. I am using two top intake, both drive bay fans and then 140mm exhaust total
- Purchase 8gbs of corsair vegenance white LP Ram (or something else white/silver.
- Either sleeve or buy lutro customs sleeving, thinking of silver/blue/white or just straight white if i buy the extensions.
- lamptron touch fan controller or sycthe master pro not sure yet
- Might upgrade the cpu cooling, I am not really into waterlooking while it looks awesome set up i don't have the patience to set it up or an extra $300-500 plus my video cards would not work as they are non reference. PRobably get a phantek or h100.

thank you for reading and if you like what you seen sub!

I was going to do something like that if my temps sucked on my video cards.

I took the front 140mm and put it in the drive bay, if the fans aren't sucking in cold air I figured it might as well be closer to what it needs to cool i.e my gpu's.

My temps in bf3 at 920mhz on both cards were top card 65c (never above) and bottom was never above 52c.

in my 690 ii my temps were top card 85c, bottom 60c.

Check out www.superbrightleds.com Thats where we get all our light strips/bars and RGB controllers from at my work. Some are similar to the Phobya in price and abilities but if you wanna spend a bit more money $40-$50 tops for a controller, some have tons of features. Even reactive to sound. Its not made for PCs specifically but a simple 4pin molex with a pig tail would power it fine.
