Looking for opinions on my next build.

As most of the OC community, I'll be primarily using this for gaming, the only thing I'll really OC though is the CPU, doubt I'll touch the ram or the gpu, hence the H60, not going to do any insane OC's. I know there isn't a case as I already have a custom HAF 932 I stripped, painted, then riveted back together and am soon to add a door hinge and need to add a few led fans and possibly some cathodes to the build, also a fan controller, but those can wait for now. I won't be doing any editing, just 10 tabbed Firefox / Chrome and playing a game or two, Skyrim to BF3 to Arma to etcetc. Thanks everyone for their input. biggrin.gif

what do you currently have and what is your budget for your build. Also do you have any prefernce for for video cards, best bang for buck, or king of the hill performance?

I currently have just a pre-built iBuyPower PC because I wanted one fast after the one I built kicked the bucket and was getting outdated anyways. It's just 4 gb 1366 DDR3 ram, a HIS 5850 GPU, 550w PSU, iBuyPower Xeon mid tower case, a Asus micro board that's cheap and that's about it. Also I would like to add a Xonar D1 to that build, forgot about it. As far as video card, I might end up getting a 6870, not sure yet...I'd like to get a mix of both performance and bargain, what are your suggestions? Thanks. thumb.gif

Completely slipped my mind last post, sorry about that. Max I would like to spend is I'd say $1,300 total.

$1200 build (Click to show)
PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($169.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80 92.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($84.99 @ CompUSA)
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($129.86 @ Newegg)
Memory: Samsung 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($47.99 @ Newegg)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2GB Video Card ($507.55 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 371 ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Microcenter)
Power Supply: XFX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($64.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS70 OEM DVD/CD Writer ($17.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $1123.33

The case I put in is basically a filler. Just find a case you want and replace it with the case I picked.
You could also go Xfire 7950s with your budget, It wouldnt be a bad idea, but would leave little room for upgradability(But you wouldnt really need it).

I already have an HAF 932 as stated in the first post. And I would like to get everything from Newegg/Amazon. Don't want to order from a bunch of different places, just a hassle. Microcenter is an option period because it says store pickup only and there isn't one in my state, period. As for the Xfire 7950's, that'd be extreme overkill for what I'll be doing, but does sound awesome, none-the-less. biggrin.gif Just a little side note I forgot to mention, I do have a dual monitor setup, both via dvi, if anyone needs to know this. tongue.gif

Every card out that still holds two DVI ports. So the dual screen setup will be fine.
I wonder about the H80 in Ironman's suggested build. Unless you want to overclock a lot, you might as well go for a less costly air cooler.

Since you've got quite a budget, I suggest to slip in an SSD (the 128GB Crucial M4 for example).

putting two 7950 in Xfire sounds costly, but at least you wouldn't be looking for more GPU power for a couple of years. The idea is also more interesting given how low the 680 is on stock.

On the different CPU cooler. Should I just downgrade to an H60 or one of these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835146012
I already have a Mushkin 120GB SSD in my build by the way, just letting everyone know. smile.gif
