Help Needed! Is either a good system??

Hi, I'm new here but starting a long search for a good all around desktop, and I don't know too much about them. I'm a physician who needs to access imaging results (MRI's, CT's, etc) on a regular basis, as well as word processing etc. In addition, my wife is an interior decorator who uses graphics-heavy programs to recreate rooms of a house and manipulate decor; I also have two kids who enjoy games and haven't been able to play some of the modern games because our computer is too "old" (two years). Having said all this, I have two quotes for desktops and I'm wondering if osmeone can tell me if they are good systems, and would be able to handle the tasks I've described? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, I like to refer to the experts on things like this rather than wing it! Below are the two sets of specs sent to me:

#2 doesn't list a CPU or motherboard that I see.

both have a lackluster graphics card. could you be convinced to put one together yourself?

Absolutely, any chance you could offer some guidance on what to get? I know basics about processors, ram, etc, but not much about the current technology.
i wouldnt get either of those. a much better system can be built for the same price. are those pre-built systems you are looking at?

My understanding is they are not pre-built per se, as in they are not built yet but can be built quickly if I want one. They are very similar to others the store sells that are pre-built though.

i wouldn't pay for one of those. with help from all the members here, you can make a much better machine for your money. just give us a budget and all the components you need (or don't need if that's a shorter list). Newegg has a tutorial video ( there are also tons on youtube) if you need help putting it all together.

agreed. Do you live in the US (order from Newegg,Tigerdirect,NCIX US)? Also do you live anywhere near a Microcenter? They have some pretty good deals on processor/mobo combos and such.

If you are looking at a $1000 build then you would be set, but from the sound of it you could do just as well with a $800 build

Fantastic, give us a budget.

Do you need peripherals? mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers?

what form factor would you prefer? you can do a lot with Matx builds nowadays, generally mid towers will give you more options with cooling and be easier to build in, more so with a full tower.

Is overclocking something that your interested in?

If your looking at $1000 budget with no peripherals than an Ssd should be very easy to fit in the budget, and will provide a noticeable SOTP speed improvement.

Hi guys, I actually live in Canada, not the U.S. As for budget, $800-1000 if it'll get us a system that we can get 3-4 years out of while still being relevant. As for the components I need, this is where my lack of expertise comes in. I guess if you could suggest a processor, ram, video card, sound card, etc., I could go from there. I don't really know what else I would need!
