Hi guys,

I am currently trying to run my bigadv folding on Linux via VirtualBox as shown in this guide here. I am using my sig rig to fold at the moment.

The following is my folding log:

[15:17:10] - Error: Could not get length of results file work/wuresults_01.dat
[15:17:10] - Error: Could not read unit 01 file. Removing from queue.

Or sometimes this error:
Code:
[15:30:32] - Error: Could not get length of results file work/wuresults_02.dat
[15:30:32] - Error: Could not read unit 02 file. Removing from queue.

Once my CPU starts folding for around 30-45 minutes, the FAH console will terminate the existing work unit and redownload a new WU.

What am I missing here? thinking.gif

Any help is much appreciated here. redface.gif

Have you tried to delete the work folder, queue.dat, unitinfo.txt?
Or instability, have you previously folded with that setup? CoreStatus = 0 is an unknown error and might be related to instability. Do you have enough memory allocated (3-4GB is plenty)? Set everything to stock and see what'll happen. If it still doesn't work, I'd report it over at foldingforum.org as you have the same WU downloaded over and over again (Project: 6903 (Run 10, Clone 5, Gen 114)) and it may be a problem with that one. They will be able to tell if someone else have finished this one.

Thanks for your input. I have removed the work folder, queue.day, and unitinfo.txt. I even reinstall the Linux virtual machine just to be on a safe side. All avenues have been exhausted to no avail.

I use this machine for my Win32 SMP folding without any problem, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

Thanks for pointing out how this can be reported on Foldingforum.org.

Let's see how it goes.... smile.gif

It looks like the problem is indeed related to memory size.
I need to increase the memory size for Linux VM from 3GB to 8GB! tongue.gif

After upping the memory size, the folding now works normally. Current TPF is around 1h:27m on my i7 980x @ 4.25Ghz.

A 980X at 4.25 Ghz running on a Virtual box should have frame time of around 42 min on a 6903 there is something wrong somewhere, you either have something running in the background or something running on the host that is using allot of cpu cycles. Open a terminal window and type ( top ) in it and see if there happens to be 2 instances of fah running.

Dude, you are indeed a champ! thumb.gif

The penny dropped when you mentioned about another instance of FAH running in the background.

Whenever I tried to start my folding, I always start it by typing in the console "./fah6 -bigadv -smp". And then, the FAH client spits out error message telling me that machine ID 1 has been running in the background. My mistake was to ignore this message and then I still typed "./fah6 -bigadv -smp" into the console. This causes the console to run 2 instances of FAH!

To clear up my suspicion, I checked my config and my guess was right. The "SMP Auto-Startup" was ticked. Silly me!

OK, my machine runs normally for now. HFM now indicates a TPF of 37-40min for a 6903 WU. I will report further if there is anymore issue.

Once again, muchos gracias senor Grandpa! smile.gif
