Looking at a Ivy Bridge upgrade but need some advice.

First off I apologize my ignorance. I fall in and out of this stuff and often lose track of what's going on in the industry.

I'm starting to feel the need to upgrade my CPU + MB and with Ivy Bridge being the new hotness I've been wondering if now is a good time to buy new hardware. I'm aware that there is never a perfect time and there's always something bigger and better coming down the road but any advice on this would be great. I generally use my PC for gaming, video editing and some occasional live streaming, I also use a 1920x1200 monitor.

The parts I'm look are as follows:
CPU: 3770K
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V PRO or a AsRock Z77 Extreme4

I'm looking for general upgrade advic,. what you think of Ivy Bridge and the parts I've selected. Any help would be much appreciated redface.gif

You'll get a great improvement upgrading to Ivy Bridge or even Sandy Bridge from a Yorkfield chip. Faster clock for clock and much higher potential overclocking frequencies. It would be an all around win! Both of those motherboards would be plenty nice enough to do some good overclocking too.
Having any i7 cpu would also be beneficial if you're doing video editing work or any type of encoding for that matter. HyperThreading has come a long long way since Intel first implemented it. If you have the cash, I say go for it. thumb.gif

Thanks for the advice! Quick follow up question: Would I need to reinstall windows along with the CPU and motherboard change?

You may not *have* to, but I strongly advise it just to make sure you've got a clean install with your new hardware and eliminate all traces of drivers from your previous build to ensure a smooth running system.

I'm running that AsRock Extreme4 board and despite my doubts when purchasing it, I quite like it a lot. It was a great buy.
