How to tell when "new" card has been used/returned? HIS 7850 from Newegg

I got my HIS HD 7850 today. The outter HIS box looked new, but it was suspicious from there. The inner box had no tape. There was no tape on the paper CD case or the crossfire bridge plastic container, and the bridge container was not shut completely. The card itself had a few traces of lint on it (cleaning? Does not match any of the packing materials - white lint vs. black foam), and there are a couple deep scratches by one of the ports. The shroud itself is not lined up quite right on the PCB. What do you think?

Yeah, my 560ti 448-core that I purchased on sale on Newegg was advertised as new did not have the removable plastic lining along the shroud of the cooler, and there was no tape sealing the anti-static bag.

I'm sure this isn't the first time Newegg has done something like this, but it didn't bother me enough to warrant a refund and deal with the hassle. Card still functions, and I got it at a great price, so I can't really complain

Well, turns out the card is garbage. It makes a horrible electric buzzing sound whenever it's in 3D mode. So Newegg sent a defective card out as a new one. Great. Good thing I have shoprunner.

Neither of my 480s even came in an anti-static bag. Everything else though appeared to be pristine.

EVGA 480s don't come in anti-static bags.

It is very possible that when the part was grabbed from the warehouse the stockman pulled a returned unit, instead of a new one. Over the last decade and hundreds of parts I have gotten from Newegg this has happen once that I can remember. Luckily they have a great return policy and quick turn around time on returns. Sorry for the bum luck.

I've had this happen with some RAM from Newegg before. Bought and paid for new but when I got it there was a freakin rubber band around the top of the package holding it closed. mad.gif

I too have had this happen. I ordered a GTX 580 last year that had been obviously opened.....

Lol I got a used 7950 from Newegg as well. Wrinkled, old, busted up anti-static bag, shroud was on lopsided as if someone dropped it, and there we're screw imprints where someone had mounted it. I didn't even test it, I immediately filed a ticket and sent it back for a new one. \

Hopefully your RMA goes smoothly.. ask them to send you a free shipping label. If you get a competent service rep and tell them your situation they compensate for it as much as they can.

Is it a video card thing then? Any idea how long the entire turnaround usually takes? I printed the label today and took it to the UPS store, but I'm going to be missing having it for my good quasi-vacation time now.
