Motherboard killing memory?

Thread Starter
This is a rather odd one, but i can't think of any other possibilities personally.

One of our 2600k render boxes has been through 3 entire sets of 4x4gb Corsair XMS DDR3 RAM in the last 3 months alone. Is it just complete coincidence that they keep dying, or is it possible a dodgy memory controller or cranky voltages are ruining them? I have repeatedly checked the voltages and timings for the sticks in the BIOS, and they are all operating within the correct parameters. Temperatures are also well below what would be deemed cold despite it being in a 1u case (room is permanently air conditioned, with all fans running at full all the time - 2600k never goes above 48 under load).

Memtest86+ is right now showing 180k errors after only an hour of running...

The motherboard on question is a Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 (our entire farm uses the same model, no problems elsewhere).

Please note that this system is NOT overclocked at all.

If anyone could provide any insight on the matter, it would be greatly appreciated wink.gif

just to make sure, you are testing the "broken" ram on a different system after the error ?

First, when you get a new set of memory, did you test them for defects?
Second, are they running at 1600MHz or using the XMS profile?
Lastly, have you thought of maybe switching the board, just in case?
Second Lastly, is the system connected to a UPS? Surge protector? Any brown outs?
Third Lastly, have you tested the other bad memory (and this one) on a different system?

Thanks for your responses.

The new memory was not tested on other systems prior to installation, but I figured that it wasn't necessary given that the error is recurring.

I have only tested the first broken set on another computer which yielded errors also. I have yet to test the other dodgy sticks, but I do still have them and they have been kept in anti-static packaging, so I will try them tomorrow.

The system is connected to a UPS, but I have tested it off the UPS circuit and the results were no different.
