how do i overclock q8300 to 3.0

Thread Starter
hi i am new to overclocking, i am overclocking my q8300 only at 2.8 ghz (automatic overclocking profile using asus p5g41t-mlx3).
anyone can up it to 3.0 will be much appreciated.

and another question....

when you OC your cpu will it affect other components like GPU (example will it make the temps go up on the video card or no?)

thanks in advance peace!

Overclocking the Q8300 on an entry-level board like the one you have would be quite hard. You might have to increase the PCI-e frequency to match up with the NB, which isn't recommended. Raising the PCI-e frequency can damage the GPU and HDD(s).

Try increasing the NB clock with small increments, 20~50MHz, and increase the vcore when needed (don't set it to Auto). You might as well need to increase the NB voltage. There are some guides on Core 2 Quad overclocking, check those out.

im using the overclocking profile (automatic oc a 10% only) will it still affect my gpu and other device?

Check if the PCI-e frequency is set to "Auto". If it is, change it to "100". And it's always better to overclock manually, but you've got to know about it more, so the guides can be very helpful.

No it doesn't increase the volts, it increases the PCI-e frequency, which might affect the HDD(s) and PCI-e graphic card(s). It is strongly recommended that you set the PCI-e freq to 100.

ok ill try that thanks (a noobie question here will increasing the frequency of the PCI-e to 100 will it overclock my VGA?

The default PCI-e freq is 100, and when it's auto, it is increased along with increasing the NB clock.

so if i leave NB clock to auto and pcie frequency to auto will it be safe or will it still be a burden on my VGA and HDD's?

Just dont let the PCIe go over 100 - its like a rule of thumb

Lookit you Stych9 with the usefull information go you!
