All I can say is buyer beware of Newegg lately.

A few months back I purchased an open box Asus Z68 Deluxe board, good price and free shipping. However, when the board arrived, all indications on the plain white box and the contents inside told me that it was a "refurbished" board instead of an open box board. I called Newegg and complained. Told them if I had wanted a refurbished board I would have ordered a refurbished board instead of an open box.

The lady gave me a little lip, but finally admitted that they are two different sales categories and that I should have received an open box item and not a refurb. The refurbished board was so warped that I couldn't even mount it on my motherboard tray.

Open box items have been opened and then sent back, newegg checks to see if they have basic functionality and sells them as open box, they are not guaranteed to look new. Anyway, there is always a risk to buying open box items. Not everyone sends back perfectly good merchandise.

I don't remember how bent but it was enough for me to return it.

I have not tested the third board. I do not want to test it because I don't want them blaming me for bending one of the pins even though it is VERY slightly bent. I don't think all the damage on the board is cosmetic, the second to last picture shows damage to traces. I'm not a computer expert but I did read that motherboards are easily damaged. If even one trace is damaged, then the motherboard can malfunction.

I didn't mind that I had to send back the items because they were defective. I understand the risks with buying open-boxed motherboards. However, I am frustrated that I cannot get my money back because of damage done to both the motherboards before it arrived at my doorstep.

All three of the motherboards I received came in a white box and they had a sticker stating that they're refurbished too.

As for my solution - I sent the board back and got a refund. Then I ordered a Gigabyte board from Amazon smile.gif

Stuff both Newegg and Asus.

This is so weird to me, newegg has always been boss for me. I had a Sapphire 7970 that was artifacting like crazy and it was 1 day before the RMA date from newegg, they sent me a prepaid shipping tag and refunded my money. Last year I bought a 6950, and the next day it was bundled with Deus Ex:Human Revolution, I contacted them and they gave me a $40 gift card, not the whole cost of the game but not their fault either way so they didn't have to do anything.

I've probably bought $4000+ worth of computer hardware and accessories from Newegg - I've never had to RMA anything or ever talk to newegg support. You guys are pretty unlucky if this is a common occurrence..

Although one downfall of newegg that I miss are the combo deals frown.gif they used to have -$80 (etc) on mobo+cpu combos, case+psu combos, etc.. now they have measly software combos doh.gif

The refurb boxes are part of the open box section in some cases. Usually Asus and MSI don't put them in the refurb section, they just put them all in open box.

I would just ask for a refund and go elsewhere.. though I've never had problems with Newegg and I've always ordered all of my hardware from them since they ship to me overnight most of the time for free or very cheap. I live only about 100 miles from their New Jersey warehouse.

I got an open box AsRock MOBO from them a while back though, and it had issues booting up even after resetting the BIOS. It took me a few hours of messing with it to make it boot, I updated the BIOS and it was fine after that but I wasn't happy because clearly the board wasn't tested before it was sent back out to me.. I just don't buy open box anymore. Nothing new has ever given me a problem from them. I did get a dead MOBO about 6 years ago but I just RMA'd for a replacement and it was a new board so there were no issues.

I'd get on the phone man.

My only RMA was when I first built this computer. I had a Corsair H50 and it wouldn't fit in my case due to the motherboard I had at the time. I called them, and within 5 minutes he had sent me an email with a prepaid shipping label and waived the restocking fee. I hope they haven't gone away from this kind of service.
In progress.
