I decided to call them about the motherboard today. I spoke with a very nice & polite representative. She said the item was returned with physical damage caused by user error. I pleaded my case but there wasn't much she could do. She said she's going to put in an internal request for a return and noted that I said others on this forum & resellerratings.com have been in the exact situation as I.

I'm glad you didn't have any issues. I didn't have any issues with Newegg for years until this situation.

I hope so too. Being stuck with a broken motherboard sucks!

There's no recourse from their claim because their rep said I could have damaged them putting the plastic protective cover on, and of course there's no way to photograph it once the cover is on. The best you could do is shoot a video of you putting it on but I doubt you'd ever convince them to watch it.
They also threatened to suspend my account if I disputed it with my credit card and it was rejected.
Thankfully all I gave them money for on that computer was motherboard and memory. Newegg won't get any more of my business.
I actually put the cover on, took it off to see if I damaged any pins , and then put it back on again. Even if I mentioned that, they could just say that I damaged it the second time I put the cover back on.

Otherwise everything went perfect.
You should be thankful that the tear didn't damage the CPU socket in any way. I'm glad you had a good experience with them.

I concur with some have stated about newegg's customer service, lately starting this year, their CS have been unwilling to help.
If they cannot provide us an open box mobo that's in working condition, they shouldnt sell them if they are not willing to take the steps in checking and testing them.
Even when we (OCNers) sell our used mobos here in the market place, we all know that we gotta to try our best to package the mobo the best way possible. It just sucks that a retailer such as newegg has such recent standards in place.
I think Newegg's standards began dropping after they started selling kitchen utensils and furniture. The company probably got too big to micromanage.

Hopefully this thread will serve it's purpose to deter people from buying any open boxed items from Newegg.
