Just read through this thread. What a nightmare. I usually shop neweeg and amazon. Mostly amazon because they have better shipping rates for me. The only issue I have with amazon is some items they sell through another retailer via their site. So I am not dealing directly with Amazon and have to deal with someone I haven't heard of. They don't stock as many computer parts as newegg.

I have never bought open box. I am always leery of that. I also have never had any new item shipped as used or open. So I guess it's a combination of cautious and lucky.

I understand that not everyone lives in a sprawling metropolis like Winnipeg tongue.gif . But there's something nice about the instant gratification of paying and getting it in your hand right away. And when you find a store that actually has people who know what they're talking about, HALLELUJAH! When you buy a mobo they check the pins in front of you too.

Most electronics stores (in Canada at least) have growingly ridiculous price match policies. Ask you're local store to price match. Check out Memory Express' uber pice match http://www.memoryexpress.com/Policies/PriceProtection.cm.aspx it's insane. Don't know if they ship stateside though.

If the packaging is damaged DON'T accept it. I was working at a car dealership, they got a factory part in the box was moderately damaged. they didn't even open it they just took pictures and sent it back. You can also require a signature, there's a term for it but I cant recall. You have to ask though as most places automatically don't. Learned that after my parent's Bose Wave was discovered sitting on the step one day in a box that clearly said Bose.

I digress, just don't forget that the people, yes they are people, on the other end have ****ty jobs too.wink.gif

if I had a good shop near me, believe me I'd try going there. I have no microcenter, no fry's, no large tiger direct (there's one but they never stock anything and they have pricing way off from the website anyway).

NewEgg did the same to me! Ordered a new $289 Motherboard ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME Rev. 3.0, it was packed well but when the box was opened and CPU Socket cover was lifted it had a single bent pin, you could barely tell it was bent but "hey, I paid $289" so I returned it. They refused to refund my money. When I called initially they tried to get me to take an in store credit if they would accept the board/warranty. I refused said I needed the motherboard now and couldn't wait, will look locally. Couldn't find anything ordered a ASUS P8Z77- V Pro/Thunderbolt from TigerDirect for $50 cheaper than NewEgg. NewEgg has really gone to the dogs! If you have any major purchases use someone else!!! I have never had these types of problems with on-line vendors before, must be the economy?

I ordered an open box Asus Maximus VI Formula. no bent pins but when I opened the box I saw that that the bottom right corner was chipped. Also the board clearly had been used as it has some purple stains on the heatsinks from coolant. I set up the RMA and I am shipping it back to them tomorrow morning. Praying they accept my refund...

For the record, newegg made it right on the first try. I had to send one extra e-mail to get free shipping back to them but they accepted the return and issued a refund.
