Compatibility with Intel Rapid Storage Technology

I have a question concerning the new Intel RST (the one that might allow TRIM in RAID).
Is Intel RST a pice of software for RAID controllers or is it SSD drive firmware?

I have the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 motherboard. I use two Intel X-25m (SSDSA2M080G2GC). I am considering whether I should implement a RAID 0 solution or not. Obviously what concerns me most is the ability to retain a functional TRIM command. Will the future release of RST allow me to utilize TRIM in RAID?

I have two controllers on my motherboard. There are six SATA ports using Intel ICH8R at 3Gb/s and there are two SATA ports using the Gigabyte controller at 3Gb/s. If I were to implement a RAID solution, should I use the ICH8R controller or the Gigabyte controller?

EDIT: it appears that my motherboard RAID uses "intel Matrix Storage Manager option ROM v6.0.0.1022 ICH8R with RAID5". The motherboard is intel ICH8R
Would this disqualify me from using Intel RST?

Yes it would, as it requires the newer Intel raid controllers, yours is just too old.

As for the answer to the first question, it is dependent upon the controller which you have on the motherboard, and not the newer version of the software. The newer version of software is required in order to tell windows how to utilize the capability of the newer raid controllers.
