not needed for the hassle it can be. if your ram has an XMP profile like mine then it's a simple BIOS change to the profile, and your ram's OC'd. If you don't have XMP ram, then it's not worth the 5% or so extra performance it gives you. This and SB cpus don't like a lot of ram OCing. There's a link @ either anand or Tomshardware about ram performance increase per speed and timings on SB that will help you decide.

edit:

overclocking RAM would be more effective and might be recommendable if you had an AMD cpu. thumb.gif

You won't get very far if you do. You have 16GB of RAM, I'm assuming that is 4x4GB.

It'll be hard to OC much especially if you have like generic CAS9 1600MHz RAM since there is XMP profiles that go from 1600MHz, 1866MHz, 2133MHZ, etc. So you'd have to loosen the timings enough to get to 1866 unless you wanted to OC your BCLK and that is not recommended at all since it is tied to many frequencies on SB.

Not to mention the IMC is probably already taxed enough from running 4x4..

If its not a real performance boost i wont worry about it, i just wanted to know if it was worth the trouble for the outcome. thanks guys! thumb.gif
