Need help finding a mechanical keyboard

Thread Starter
I need a new keyboard, and figured its time to throw down some extra money on a mechanical keyboard. Now I'm unsure what keyboard I want yet...
A few things to narrow down my search:

1. Needs to be a full keyboard with normal sized keys. So no silly short backspace, or extra large enter, etc.
2. Needs to be 150 or under shipped.
3. Cherry MX Blacks are proffered as I have used them, but I'm open to Blues and browns as well.
4. Backlit would be a plus
5. High quality is a must. Something that will last me a long time.
6. A finish that won't have finger prints all over it...

How easy is it to clean a mechanical keyboard? I'm guessing this differs between all of them?

Appreciate it! thumb.gif

Maybe you're looking for a Steelseries 6gv2? Cherry blacks, available for under 100 I believe, at least mine was, solidly built (you could play baseball with this thing). Full and normal sized, the only qualm might be the "large" backwards L shaped enter button, though that's how those used to look so... This of course requires that the "\" key is moved next to the shift, but It's not really a huge deal. It has a matte finish so no fingerprints. No backlight, but there are media keys which function via a button in the place of the left windows key.

Easy to clean - I'd say yes, if you can get one of those little plastic key popper things (or make your own from paperclips) it's very easy to remove them and clean around individually, but I haven't done any major cleaning on it yet so can't speak on that.

Ducky Shine Cherry MX Black its full size, has back lighting, mat finish so fingerprints wont easily show up also it has media keys. Its 145+ shipping soo might be a little bit out of your budget.

From my experience with Lepolds i think they are some solid keyboards. The FC500RL/AB is a awesome for the price. Full size, No Media key or backlighting though. 109 + shipping should be somewhere around 120?

As for cleaning id say just don't eat at the computer and you'll be fine haha... Canned air and a quick wipe down with a towel is all i ever do. Maybe later on you can invest in one of these http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,roofs&pid=rfek
keeps the dust off it when not in use.

Used a 6GV2 before on LAN, and just couldn't stand the large enter key.

I definitely like the simplistic look of the Leopold. Been looking at the Ducky Shining a lot actually, slightly over my budget with shipping, but no big deal. I also looked into the Trigger, but my main problem with the trigger is the Macro Keys. I hate having macro keys.

I'm probably picky. tongue.gif

Haha i was going to suggest the k90 vengeance but saw you didn't like macro keys. I actually prefer keyboards that has a simple look to them. You could always try getting a ducky 9008g2 from tigerimports or tankguys. Similar to the shine just no backlit. They are something like $130.

Filco is the highest quality you can get. Majestouch 2 with Blacks will be the ultimate choice.

P.S. I'm saving money to get a Filco, as its the best mechanical kb out there. It is a robbery for me, but I'll spend that money on a Filco, no doubt.

Hows the quality on the Ducky Shining?

I'm still debating on the Ducky Shining (White LED), or the Filco Majestouch-2.

heres to Hoping you have seen the OCN Duckies =)

I love my MX Browns - Only problem I have with it, is there is an usually High Hard Plastic piece that goes around the Arrow Keys,

Particularly, for me, my finger would rub against this hard plastic Side when I would use left and right Keys.

My Wife however, found it hard to type as well because the Keys when pressed, would go Under the Level of the Hard Plastic that surrounds the keys, specifically the Up arrow.

My Solution was a simple one however - the top row of keys are actually Taller than the arrow keys, so I replaced the arrow keys, with my Volume up/down/Mute keys and now im happy =)

Thius is my first Mechanical, and never touched one before it (that I know of atleast) and have been very pleased with thisother than the loud sound it makes if I bottom out the keys typing fast.

which is supposedly easy to remedy but I dont think i care ^.^
