Had a switch that was gimping me from 5.7 Mbits to 1.2 Mbits with a super high ping on top. Answer is yes, but only your network speed/ping. Only thing is that switch was probably dying, it was practically red hot and it was pretty old. A new one fixed the problem.

General consensus is that you will be fine as long as you didn't pick up the cheapest router off of the shelf and call it done.

Gaming really doesn't use a significant amount of bandwidth at all.
