Such a thing already exists with the 2-year contract you get bonded to when you buy a new cell phone at that "sweet price". Apple does it so they release a phone every year or so, at least before most contracts will expire, making you have to cancel your contract (which is expensive) or keep paying monthly fees until your contract expires (it slows down demand or gives them more unsubsidized money when you buy it full price). The same will happen with the consoles. If you get into this deal, you'll probably be stuck paying your Xbox 360S while the 720 is released. You'll then have to sign ANOTHER contract if you want to get the new console at a good price.

I cannot see Nintendo getting on board with this. Sony and Microsoft I could.

Also, I can't stand Patcher. He is wrong about everything. According to him a couple years ago this generation is/was the last. I would love his job, ramble on like you know what your on about and get paid for it. Useless analyst

so, would the console not work if you didnt pay the subscription? or would it just cost more to take it online and play for these cheaper versions?
if it still worked offline without paying a subscription fee, I wouldn't mind.. I really only want a console for Tekken, but I can't justify hundreds of dollars for a console just to play it.

First there was talk of no used games, then always online rumors and now there could be a contract.

New gen consoles are going to crash & burn because I can see the consumer base being cut in half and fewer games being bought by those that remain.
