Should do about 1100-1200w RMS at 2ohm. That's about the kind of power you need.

Keep in mind that 1000w RMS + is a LOT different than running 600w RMS to your subs, as far as electrical goes. 4ga wiring isn't going to be enough, and I'll bet on it you'll need to do the Big 3 upgrade. Maybe a second battery as well, to keep voltage drops from being too significant.

I would strongly recommend you ditch the Type R 10's and go for a single bigger 12 instead ported. You'll get just as loud or louder than 2x 10's, and you'll be able to reach lower frequencies.

I'll do the big 3 upgrade, no worries there. I'll use 2ga or 0ga for that job, but I don't know if I'll be rewiring my entire car with 2ga over the 4ga that is already there.. that sounds like a major PIA.

Anyways, I just went out and took my sub out of its case to be sure of the model number and I was wrong. It is actually the 1042D model. So it is a dual 4 ohm voice coil with up to 500 RMS. So I would need an amp that can handle 1000W RMS @ 4 ohms thumb.gif <---- IF I keep the Type-R's this is. I see you recommend a single 12" even with the type of music I listen to? You think that would be better?

Furthermore, assuming I keep the Type-R's, I was looking around Amazon and this is what I have found within my price range, let me know if any of these are decent because I don't know much when it comes to amps.

#1 - SSL EV2500M EVOLUTION 2500W - Does 1K RMS @ 4 ohms according to spec sheet.

#2 - Power Acoustik CPT1-3200 - Does 1K RMS @ 4 ohms according to spec sheet.

#3 - Lanzar VCT3000D - Does 1K RMS @ 4 ohms according to spec sheet.

#4 - Sound Storm AE120 - Does 1K RMS @ 4 ohms according to spec sheet.

#5 - Planet Audio AP3000D - Does 1K RMS @ 4 ohms according to spec sheet.


Also, what 12" sub and amp combination would you recommend? Thanks a bunch for the responses by the way.

You would need 1,000-1200w RMS @ 1ohm since they're dual 4ohm coils. 2x D4's you can run a 4ohm or 1ohm load. Most monoblocks will do a 1ohm load. If this is the case, the HiFonics Brutus 1200 will do fine, and is around $140.

Honestly, I would recommend maybe a Sundown SA-12 ($195 shipped) or a Fi Audio Q 12 ($284 + shipping). The Fi Audio Q being the better sub, and it'll take about 1500w RMS daily. The SA-12 is no slouch either, it'll take 1,000-1,200 daily. EIther sub in around a 2.0-2.5 cubic foot ported box, tuned low (32Hz or so) will do an AMAZING job. A lot better than 2x Type R 10's will.

If you do change to a single larger sub, you'll want DVC 2ohm, so you can wire to a 1ohm load at the amp. The HiFonics Brutus 1200 will power the SA-12 fine, the 1600w is what you'll want for the Q 12.

Looking at the SA-12, it looks like a pretty solid sub. I'll probably end up going that route if I can find a box for it and then sell off my Alpine Type-R + old amp. Also, I see it's rated at 600RMS but it's fine to run it at 1000-1200 daily?

Like I told you, you're going to want a custom box, around 2.0-2.5 cubic feet, tuned ported at probably 32Hz. If you have any questions regarding port sizes, just let me know via PM and I'll gladly help you out (or IM).

Yes, the SA-12 will handle 1,000w RMS daily. I wouldn't push more than 800-1,000w RMS to it daily unless you know what you're doing with it. You WILL want to break it in first though with 500-600w.

Yeah I have to have a custom box regardless of which sub I have because there's no other way to fit subs in a thirdgen camaro. I'll have to call up a local place that makes custom boxes and see what they can do, probably won't be for a week or two though.
