Standalone SSD boot drive & Intel SRT on secondary SSD + HDD for storage

I bought 2 128GB Crucial M4s yesterday (Newegg Shell-Shocker ftw) and they'll be here in a day or two, and I was wondering how I should configure them given my current setup. Currently, I have a 64GB Micro Center G2 SSD (rebranded A-Data S599) as a boot drive, and a 1TB Seagate drive for storage. I'll be using one of the M4s as a boot drive to replace the 64GB drive and the other M4 to replace the 5400rpm drive in my laptop.

Anyway, I was wondering if I could use the old 64GB SSD as a cache for my 1TB storage drive using Intel SRT, while the M4 acts as a standalone boot drive. First of all, is this even possible or is SRT only to be used for system drives? Second, I noticed that I have to put my SATA controller in RAID mode to use SRT. Would I lose TRIM support on my boot drive if I did this? What do you guys recommend I do?

If I can't use SRT on my old SSD + storage drive, what the heck should I do with my old SSD? I was thinking about possibly replacing the optical drive with a hard drive in my laptop, and just using the 64GB SSD in that as a boot drive (and put the other M4 in my desktop).

Well, I figured it out. I now have my 128GB M4 as my boot drive (and some games and programs), and my old 64GB SSD is a cache for my 1TB drive. Apparently, even if the SATA controller is in RAID mode, if it's just a single disk, TRIM will work. Everything went better than expected.

Hey, I am in a similar situation. Have you noticed any improvements to your hard drive activity (read/write times)? Also, does Windows feel any quicker with the m4 as the boot drive? Thanks, sorry for the late bump. redface.gif
