This build was in dedication to one of my FAVORITE games of all time and also a tribute to the company that has held me down in the "what to do when not at work" category for the greater part of SIX years. I have been ...well lets face it ...an obsessed WoW player and when i am not in the arena with my shaman, Im usually blowing something up in Starcraft or smashing demons with my druid on Diablo II. *edit* and now e'sploding things up on my Witch doctor in DIABLO III
I had this idea rather suddenly on May 6th while i was on the usual extremely long customer service help line for Blizzard. I thought it would be a great idea to see if it was in any way illegal to have a friend (DWOOD!! WOOT WOOT!) cut me a side panel that had the D3 emblem on it. I thought i was going to be told "NO way dude" by the Rep but to my surprise he sounded generally interested and put me on hold....
well about 15 mins later he came back and after jokingly demanding money told me "cant recreate it for others...cant sell it...but yes and we would really like to see what your end product looks like"
**faint**
and as you can see...it turned into a bit more then just a diablo III side panel
I hope you all enjoy
THE DESIGN
I wanted this to Be something near the "ooooh wow...." category when people looked at this. i wanted to go with a design that the general public was really into right now and add a bit more. i thought about having my cousin do a vinyl wrap for me. It would have looked very nice but not extreme enough...or should we say Hardcore enough.
I quickly thought of Dwood and his amazing work he does with backplates, fan grills and case badges.
So i shot him a message about the project. He was instantly onboard
it took about 10 minutes of back and forth chit'chat for the mastermind to take my ideas and have them in program...or at least had a solid start...
the concept was to have a fan grill for every class in D3 with a weapon to symbolize them each individually....

i sent him a video with some more of my ideas for side panel cutouts and a top panel cutout with a cross to replace the Antec Three Hundred's stock 140mm fan with a dual 120mm fan setup

I really wanted the Blizzard Logo And battle.net symbol on the front somehow covering the front mesh with Both of Our OCN tags on it
and this is what he came up with

Dwood @ his shop busy Cutting and Me thinking...
"uuuh...crap ive cut a 6 inch hole in a computer once, and now i have all these pretty parts being made for me....and im in charge of putting it together...."

.......... *ding*
and off i went.

A simple but well built piece of machinery. The Antec Three hundred was picked for its cost and overall "mod-ability". I was currently using this case for my system when i had the go-ahead for this build. I was familiar with it and with the time frame (8 days) This was a key aspect for me.

a mini tower with mighty power. in its stock form this makes a great low cost (60.00 US dollars N.I.B.) positive compression case. and tho not much for room behind the mobo tray...the "wire bay" next to the HDD rack works great.
SO...lets go ahead and chop all that good stuff out!
i love opening a fresh case

these hinged fan trays had to go, along with the support bracket behind them to make way for the H100's 240mm radiator Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Time to blow the top off this thing! ....this is what life is all about!!

also removed this little cable management thingy ma'bob

since this case didnt come with any ports to run wires behind the mobo tray...well i just added a few myself!

GUTTED!

just needs some paint. i used some krylon paint + primer gloss black with two coats of clear on top to help with scratches since i didnt have time to do a complete tear down/ sand / paint / wetsand / clear. not to shabby... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
in between coats of paint and clear and constant stops from a ups truck, the fedex guy TWICE and regular mail with all sorts of bits coming in, i started my PSU paracord mod.
i quckly learned this should have been done about a month before i had the idea. AMEN for having a busted rocketfish psu laying around...i only pulled the heads off three wires, but many of the barb fitting were crimped so hard to the wires that they were about to break...really REALLY close to breaking. I also only had to almost go to the hospital for stiches once so i think i came out a champ...
(*NOTE: remember to Change this once wires are fixed)

Big shout-Out to Lutro0 for your youtube guides on wire sleeves. i advise everyone who wants to try this to check his Videos and guide out.
Dwood sent me a text friday at noon and said i would be getting the mother load in 24 hrs (gotta love overnight shipping)
the pressure was really on now and i still had to do:
EVERYTHING
so saturday morning came and another day of paint and sleeving began.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
SUNDAY....
was mothers day..... a Mother will never know how much a son loves her.
Monday
All that was left was to put it all together install my fans and....hey....wait, where my fans??
i had been so busy that i hadnt noticed my fans weren't with the pile of parts....apparently the fx fans from NZXT are quite popular....about 2 months back order popular..
so i quickly had to improvise and get some kingwin fans here STAT...but it was already to late and no amount of money was going to get them here sooner then wednesday....unfortunate but not completely crippling. i still had everything else...

i had already been using the Modified Corsair Kits it was just a matter of taking my home made acrylic mounts off, mounting Dwood's Brackets, and his backplates. (needless to say they look much better )

Shoving all those wires behind the mobo tray and making it look decent was...a female dog...i think id rather cut my finger again

did i mention the paracord i used is reflective!!

snap on the sides!!

and turn on some D3

Where are we now?
i still am working on a few odds and ends. as previously mention I have to get the fan connectors for the Scythe 12 channel sleeved, waiting on some mod/smart red acrylic for the Diablo Cutout on the Side Panel. and when i have the extra money i will be swapping my PSU and Ram over to Corsair Products.
