I actually had the same thing happen when I put my USB drive in my computer once, the issue for me was there was a bit of graphite jammed up inside it that was causing it to short I guess, i saw it wasn't writing my files and went to pull it out and it was super hot. At least mine still works lol...

I had a 8gb usb drive that use to get STUPID hot while copying large files from my PC.

Probably you can't get your money back since there's no evidence that it was the xbox' fault. Companies will always blame it on other companies.
