Yes you can. There will be no speed difference since pci-e 2.0 isn't bottlenecking current GPUs.

These two are the best 7970's imo:

They both should allow you to change the voltage for increased overclocking, and both cards run cool and quiet. If you want a 7970, get whichever is cheaper out of those two imo thumb.gif.

BUT you said GTX 680's are around the same price as 7970's? In that case I'd probably get a GTX 680. Voltage is locked, but they still overclock decently and it's generally slightly better than the 7970. Whichever card you get, they're both very good choices smile.gif
