Yeah, I think that I should be fine with Sandy Bridge Especially on my budget. I would definitely prefer an unlocked chip for over clocking so if a top of the range SB is less then a low end IB then I'd definitely go for the SB.

SB is a generational sidegrade. If you go with IB you're getting usb3.0 pcie3.0. If you have the cash and you do quite a lot of gaming a better graphics card would make more sense (like the gtx 670 which is coming out tomorrow). You won't notice the difference between your 1055t and Sandy at high resolutions anyways.

You should be fine with your chip for all current games with a single GPU. If I were you, I wouldnt upgrade until Haswell..

Too much hassle and too little gain in such an "upgrade". You'd be much better of getting a more powerful graphics card, since most the burden nowadays is placed upon the VPU/GPU.

After reading all of the opinions I have decided to get a GTX570 before I upgrade my CPU and motherboard. I'll wait for it to come down in price first and it should drop pretty quickly as the 670 is coming out soon (someone said today?). I'm not going to bother waiting to buy the 670 because as I read the other day these things (CPUs, GPUs etc) are way ahead of most applications available. However with games like Battlefield 3 this isn't so much the case Graphics wise, but I run multiplayer fine on high settings with a 550. Even though my 550 runs fine I would like to get a 570 just to smoothen things out and to record videos with (hopefully) no framerate. Plus my 550 should get me a little bit of extra cash after I get the 570.

I went from a 1100T @ 4.15 on a Crosshair IV F to a 2500k @ 4.62 on a ASUS P8Z77-V and my god there's a proper performance difference. The 2500k is faster / has less CPU usage in ANYTHING i do with it from games to programming to 2d designing.

Also, there's the significantly lower power consumption of a 2500k and the features a Z68/Z77 board offers.

I would actually advice at least a Gen 3 Z68 or a Z77 due to PCi-E 3 and IB upgrade abilities.

I myself have the pretty reasonably priced ASUS P8Z77-V and that board has a mountain of features and a strong enough VRM section to do 5Ghz+ on a 2700k.
Also with the right LLC there's pretty much no vdrop at all. ine's 1.416v idle and 1.408v load.

Also, the 1100T made my CF 6950's have bad stuttering and crappy GPU usage in BF3. 2500k solved it.
But, i went to a 7970 cause I wanted somehting better OC-able plus the power consumption of that CF 6950 set was pretty darn high.

Don't get a new 570. They are a TERRIBLE buy. I have explained why in many threads. Grab a 7850. They will perform about the same, but the 7850 is a newer card, runs cooler and has 2GB of VRAM.

Or you could grab a GTX 480, they are a much better buy for price/performance. Or a used 570.

+1 to the above.

A secondhand 6950 2GB / 6970 would also be worth the buy as they perform around the same level yet are cheap, at least here in holland, to the bone secondhand.

If you experiencing lag in your os you might benifit more from a SSD. I have a phenom II 965(A slower chip than yours) and I experience no lag even in games.
