In my 200+ hours spent with the game I would say I found about, and being very generous here, 300 to 500 different weapons. Hell, even if I had found 1% that would have been 170,000, which wasn't even close to the number of combinations I found. The item combinations were not hyped by the players, but by GearBox, it was their major selling point! During one press conference they went as far as to say that you, outside of the preset uniques, might not find the same item twice. Yea, right! I had piles of certain "random" items.

They're randomly generated so, in fact, there are over 17 million weapons.

Just because your personal encounter didn't net you all 17 million, doesn't make that wrong.

Here, let me counter that.

There are over 1 million cops in the united states...However, because I've only met 50 of them, the other 999,950 don't exist.

Obviously in my 10+ years of operating a motor vehicle, I should've encountered those 999,950 cops but, I guess I didn't drive as badly as I should've.

You misunderstood what I said. I never said they didn't exist, as I am sure they do, but there is a general expectation to find more than a fraction of 1% of them. My argument was a counter point that you said they delivered on EVERYTHING, when in fact THEIR biggest selling point was a complete failure. The number of duplicate "random" items in the game was very high, and the lack of total uniquely different items found just shows that their RNG wasn't that great. With over 17,000,000 possible item drops in the game it isn't beyond reason to expect to find, especially after every expansion and over 200 hours, a wide variety of items. I don't think it is unreasonable to ask for even 2% of this massive loot pool, which would be 340,000 different items. This of course didn't happen at all!

I mean, really, holding someone accountable for only 2% of their claim is pretty damn lax in my book.

This argument doesn't make much sense at all, considering that you aren't doing anything (I hope not) to warranty having contact with the police. Where as in Borderlands playing the game is the required action to encounter the items. Not just playing the game, but going area by area with intent to find as many items as possible.

As much as I love analogies as the next guy, they need to be relevant.

My point is that the algorithm exists based on the RNG.

In the same situation, regardless of my conduct, were I to encounter an officer, based on YOUR assumption, he should be vastly different than the others...However, you're missing the entire point that even on a 100000 sided die, you can roll the same number, twice.

So I repeat myself (Considering you missed my entire point), regardless of your PERSONAL experience, the algorithm is such and does exist -- In fact there are OVER 17 million combinations and in my 4 playthroughs of the game, I've never gotten the same thing twice.

So again, regardless of my conduct, it is not IMPOSSIBLE to be pulled over by the same officer twice...There are obviously, 999,999 other possibilities.

I think you need to set your "line of best fit" to something that actually makes sense as opposed to random anomalies in a fixed sample size. I.E. You didn't play the game nearly enough to accurately make a conclusion based on the evidence. thumb.gif

I guess we will have to agree to disagree...

As stated, in over 200 hours of gaming I found many many many duplicates, outside of the preset unique items. I PERSONALLY don't find it unreasonable to hold someone accountable for a small fraction of their commitment. I honestly believe their RNG fell short and that was a big reason as to why the number of different weapons wasn't seen. Even at 2%, my go to number in this discussion, I should have never seen the same item twice. Ever. This also wasn't just a single case, good friends of mine had the same problem, finding the same items. At one point my friend and I had the exact same "random" pistol that dropped, name and everything.

My point of contention was they claimed they had over 17 million items, and yet here I and my friends were with duplicates of "random" items. That tells me the RNG wasn't working properly, which isn't a surprise because an RNG on that scale would be mind boggling to properly write.

I still go back some 20 years later and play Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, and Faxanadue. On top of a myriad of other titles that are single player, they will never die!

I wasn't trying to say that even single player games would degrade after 5 years. It's all subjective

Basically I was saying that before 4~5 year mark, most people should have happy with them, but once that mark is reached, some people would still like them, some others might ditch it for its dated graphics, or by choice when compared to latest titles with better whatever aspects

Of course you can still like your extremely old games redface.gif

Take 2 is a really great publisher. If their games need more time they give it to em. I don't think any other pub treats it's AAA properties and devs as well as Take 2.
