Dual monitors not working

Thread Starter
I have a Radeon 6XXX video card with one VGA port and one DVI port.
I installed the drivers but I cannot get the screen to be displayed on both monitors.
The monitors use VGA cables, so I have one VGA cable going into the back of the video card and the other VGA cable from the second monitor is going into the DVI port using an adapter.
When I go to "Personalize", the computer does not recognize 2 monitors. It only displays whichever monitor is plugged into the VGA port.
Also when I go to the Catalyst Control Center, it does not see the second monitor.

What do I do? Is it best to buy a video card with 2 VGA ports on the back of it?

for amd one of the monitors have to use a display port. you can buy a display port adapter but those run around in the $100's the good ones anyway, the cheaper ones rarely work.

This is only for 3 screen eyefinity which he is not doing. Both ports should work, however if the DVI port is DVI-D (digital only) it can not be used with a passive DVI>VGA adapter. Have a look on the card's outputs to identify what type of DVI connection it has.

Ah ok. No wonder. I've never used ATI. I always use nvidia cards on customers' computers. I should be ok with an nvidia card with a vga port and dvi port though right?

Check your DVI. You dont need display port adapter for dual monitors

For example one of my 6850 have 2 DVI ports, top one hadles analog(VGA adapter) and digital(DVI) but second only digital (maybe ur DVI handles only digital signal) BUT I can see that one of my ports are DVI-I and one DVI-D so actually I can't fit VGA adapter in it!

I can see 2 plausable problems:
my guess ur DVI port works on digital signal only (or ur card doesn't support 2 screens u should research that)
maybe some soft updates or something like that (drivers, catalyst)

No need for Displayport with 2 monitors. thumb.gif
