UEFI .... can I get rid of it?

Thread Starter
Recently got an HP Probook 6465b from work, wondering if I can get rid of the UEFI nonsense?

I actually just want to see a traditional BIOS to see if I can manually set the ram banwidth/timings since it hasn't auto detected the new ram prodperly.

Also wondering If I format the entire Hard disk and set up a dual boot or just clean windows, will it break the UEFI and make the laptop unbootable?

Does anyone have any idea?

UEFI replaces BIOS.

Your stuck with it frown.gif

and setting up a dual boot is similar to a BIOS system, should be fine.

If you can't change the ram timings, it's not the UEFI's fault. The manufacturer decided not to let you access the timings, which is typical for laptops.

Im concerned because there is a partition on the hard drive called HP_TOOLS, and also because once I created an account on the existing windows installation it then recognised that account and password for me to access the UEFI on boot...

Leading me to believe that if I format the hard drive to clean install windows, it might format the UEFI too (I read somewhere UEIF is stored on the hard drive - not sure if this is true entirely) XD .... or is this not the case?

this applied to the entire UEFI interface your see OP.

GPT partition data is stored on the HD, although the partition you see is most likely recovery tools. Because your using a buisness lappy I can't tell you for sure, though.

Sorry, and may google kind to you, sir!

You wouldn't have been able to play with anything anyway. Its a laptop, not an enthusiast desktop board. Stop blaming UEFI.

The UEFI is just the new kind of BIOS we have. It has NOTHING to do with your options and there is no BIOS beneath it. Most of us SB/IB users also have UEFI, but our enthusiast boards actually have proper settings to change. It is unusual for a laptop BIOS to give any control over CPU/RAM settings.
