The game was built with console (and possibly MS imposed) limits in mind. Still 1000x1000 is moooore than enough space for most ppl. Not to be insulting, but you have to be some special head case to need more space than that (And inb4 ADD comments).

I'll still do the majority of my MC playing on PC anyways :/

Ah, if it can handle 1000x1000 then that should be ok for most, must have missed that thumb.gif

Some of the more elaborate enthusiasts and projects may feel limited by it though, but that is what budget PC's and bargain-bin DDR3 is for thumb.gif

I'll be sticking to PC, mods, texture packs and piles of RAM.

I havent read much into this (as you may be able to tell) but any word on how map sharing may work in the xbox console environment? or the multiplayer in general? I would imagine letting people connect to third party servers would be something microsoft's security staff would never let through. Square Enix had to fight like hell for about 4 years before they let FFXI use their own servers.

though there would be maintenance / bandwidth cost issues for Microsoft to host everyone's maps for them..

Im not sure if mentioned but what about the mods? I think thats one of the most important aspects of MC, will anyone be able to upload a mod and be installed on the xbox version? Or is it going ot be vanilla only.

There are quite a number of indie titles that support world creation/sharing, and hosting one's own maps. so no, I doubt world sharing will be issue, but the xbox build is a few revisions behind the PC version, and afaik doesn't support map sharing, but you can host an 8 player game. I'm sure they'll add it in soon enough if there's a big enough demand for the feature.

@Onex: as noted on the MC wiki for quite some time, mod and texpack support is an upcoming feature.

And just to clarify, I believe the exact size is 1026x1026. And if you include the nether, that's another world that is 256m x 256m x 128m

Map sharing would easily be possible, but the map sizes of 100+ MB might be an issue. Microsoft is paying for all bandwidth on Xbox Live

@lordikon: good point there (it was the reason I mentioned MS imposed limits on the map size in the 1st place).

I think the current setup is fine as is (hosting MP games), and if u really want to share maps: Copy your save onto a flashdrive and upload it online for ppl to use. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I'm pretty sure the game saves will be stored in 1 file, so that means ease of moving maps on portable storage (memcards/flash sticks). Problem solved.

Well it turns out the game is breaking sales records for XBLA.

Uno and Castle Crashers are the highest selling Xbox Live Arcade games with around 3 million sold each. With Minecraft smashing 24 hour records I could see it being up near the top.
