FX-8120 Stability issues.

So i have my 4.2Ghz and its at 60C but never passes that and im replacing the fans on the H-100 to have a push/pull. The problem im having is, it has 3 cores that instantly fail the small fft test in Prime95. I increased the vcore to 1.3v (the VID is 1.2625v) once i set it to 1.3v no failures yet.

It does kinda have me concerned about my mobo since VCORE1 is currently at 73C and VCORE2 is at 64C. Every place i look, there is no answer to how hot that can get before i fry it... it does seem to be holding at 73C and 64C and when i mount some fans it will probably go down... thinking duct tape and a house fan on the side would work lol. also, im going to take the H-100 off and put some good thermal paste on. (i dont get why they even supply it if it is just garbage anyways.)

EDIT: Core 6 has stopped but the rest are going onto test 11...

so i saw that a guys VID was 1.2825 and he was running 1.3V. i bumped it a little above since LLC seems to suck (on medium and not doing anything). My VID is 1.2625v so i figured that if he was going 4.0Ghz with a chip that normally needs more power than mine and i have a higher OC, its going to require more power. i bumped the voltage up to 1.3125v and it passed the test that it normally gets an error on. so its stable but i havent ensured COMPLETE stability yet.

You need more voltage. Try 1.35v. 1.3v is too low for 4.2GHz.

Also regarding temperatures, you want to look at the CORE temperatures. You should have eight of them, use a program called HWMonitor.

Dude you are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off on your temperatures, I have a same cpu, motherboard and a brand new h100 and on idle Im at 28c full is 56c (im talking about core temp, not cpu temp), but this is because Im at 4.8ghz with 1.44vs

but when I was at 4.3ghz my idle temp was 20c and max temp on full load was 45c, I love this h100 smile.gif

you better check if your thermal paste is done properly (i use the one that came with the h100) but before that, remember to increase the speed of the h100, I have it at full power with 3 bars, the default is like 1 bar i think.

^ He never even listed his temperatures. The temps he listed were different temps of who knows what, not core temps lol.

im using real temp and it shows 8 cores... gotta get a push pull setup so it cools it down more... 41C IDLE and 61C under load (Prime 95 small ffts).

Also, could that be why it takes 6 minutes for 1 loop in LinX?

What should CPU/NB be? its just at 1.25V

What should CPU/NB be? its just at 1.25V

1.25v is fine for cpu/nb.

And the more memory you use = the longer LinX will take.
