NH-D14 Rattling - what can I do?

Thread Starter
Just installed the Noctua NH-D14 but I've just noticed there is a slight rattling sound coming from it, I've tried reseating it and tightening the fittings but no luck.

If I rest my finger on the fins clostest to the rear of the case it dampens it slightly, and if I set the fan speed to level 5 out of 9 in the bios it makes the rattle stop.

Any advice? Not sure what to do.

Thanks for reply.

Booted without 140 plugged in and the sound had gone. Tried moving 140 into all various places along the fins, its much worse the closer to the CPU it is.

I am running both fans from the splitter, is it possible the 120 is over spinning the 140? I will put them both into seperate CPU fan headers see if it helps running he 140 slower.

Did you use the clear rubber sound dampeners? and are the fans lined up on them correctly? They shouldn't rattle.

Yeah they were pre fitted so I didnt move them. I kept making sure they sit on the rubber but I'll try a few more times!

Could it be to do with the airflow going through the fins? I tried 'holding' the 140 and I feel no vibration and the rattling continues.

Man this is difficult, thanks for the replies so far, I'll keep trying. smile.gif

Does the fan rattle when its not on the heatsink? Meaning, is it the fan motor itself rattling? If so, you can just take apart the fan, clean and oil it and it'll be good as new
