Help, MOBO or GPU problem.

Thread Starter
Here we go,

system specs:
Club3d Ati radeon HD 6870 crossfire
AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T Processor
MSI 990FXA-GD65
8GB RAM

So my video cards are overheating in a second when i play any game(even AoE 1) then they stop working and game crashes.
I tried one of them in another computer, no problems.
So i tried them on my setup one-by-one and getting the same overheating problem.
I tried to switch PSU, didnt work.
Im starting to think my mobo is faulty but can mobo cause that kind of problem?
This started yesterday, so no overheating before that. My comp is almost a year old.

Thanks for any help you can give. Im thinking of buying a new mobo, because i can't miss diablo 3 : (

PS: currently idle temp is 50c. When im playing it jumps straight to 90c, then my gpu fails.
PSS: on other setup the idle temp was 40c
PSSS: oh and my case is HAF 922 with 200mm fans x3 (side, top and front) 140mm fan(rear)

12.4 catalyst oh and i tried fresh install of windows today, didnt work

What are the load temps in the other rig? Idle is meaningless, and can just be a reflection of ambient temps or case airflow.

Also, IIRC, 90C isn't outside of the normal (accepted) operating temp of the 6870.

Did catalyst get updated recently?

And have you run a non-game GPU benchmark program?

Check to see what the GPU fans are doing when you're playing a game; I know you mentioned that the cards work fine in another rig, but worth a shot to see if something's wrong on that end

open amd video control center and monitor fans rpms and temps as you run video

open amd video control center and run fans on high and then check fans
