Help my WoW account has been hacked, how to recover?

Well seems I've been hacked for awhile. I see 6 days ago there was a character upgrade purchase in WoW on my account that I did NOT do. I've not had it active in a couple years. The security question is in chinese. So how the hell would they hacked into my account after all this time ? Are my other games/keys at risk?

I have Starcraft 1 & 2 and Wow and Diablo 1 & 2 and Warcraft 3 on my bnet account

The reason I ask is I've not had an active WoW account in years. Yet I get the following email. I was just curious if it was a phishing or legitimate notice?

***Notice of Account Closure***

Account Name: removed

Reason for Closure: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy

This account was closed because one or more characters were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy.

Even if this is the result of account sharing, the account owner can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment.

We've found the above behavior is many times directly related to groups responsible for compromising World of Warcraft accounts; we take these issues very seriously. To better understand our position against exploitative activity and the risks involved, please review this article: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/services/anti-gold/

The exploitative activity that took place on this account violates the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask you take a moment to review these terms at http://us.blizzard.com/company/legal/index.html. Note that additional Terms of Use violations may result in more severe actions against this account, up to and including permanent closure.

If you believe your account was compromised, please go to the following website https://us.battle.net/account/support/account-recovery.html. Our support staff will assist you as soon as possible. If you are unable to access your account due to the password being changed, please visit our Login Support site here: https://us.battle.net/account/support/password-reset.html

For any disputes of this action or further information on exploitive activity, please visit the Account Administration Overview and contact page here: http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/300515

Most likely Phishing. Did it use your actual account name? If so, the best way to tell is to log into your Battle.net account and see from there. (Don't use the links they provide in the email)

Pretty sure its fake. I used to get those all the time. You could always send Blizzard an email or try logging into your account. Never put your account info into anything linked from an email though.

Just curious, could you post the Message Header/Source? If you don't know how to get the Message Header, what email client are you using? I've got at least 12 of these in the past, so I may be able to help you out.

You can PM me the message header if you want to keep possible IP info from being public. Just make sure you censor out your local IP address and email address thumb.gif

I also got a very similar (if not the same) email recently.

Logged into my Battle.net account, and nothing seemed out of place.

If is is legit, you will be able to see the same letter in your Message center in your Battle.net account. Just log in on their website. I get these e-mails a lot. Mostly if you get an e-mail from Blizz, it will have some type of fancy logo at the top and also some graphics, that is, however, a general rule of thumb.

If you want to get your account back go here.[battle.net] and follow the steps. You should go ahead and do this even if you don't want your account back though, as they most likely used a stolen CC to buy time/expansions and you'll probably get a nice email from Blizzard about that when they get a charge back if the card holder finds out.

If you haven't been active in years then they most likely got into it through a brute force attack on the old forums (for some reason there was no lockout/captcha on the old forums). It'd still be a good idea to go ahead and change your passwords if you haven't already though, especially if you reuse them.
