I am thinking of upgrading to ivy bridge, however heard they ran hot...I have a thermalright silver arrow I have been wanting to use and wondered if that would be enough to keep a 3770K temps under control.... Has anyone have first handd knowledge of air cooling on IB??

it looks like the heat increases considerably past 1.3v. I'm using the Phanteks cooler on mine; and at 1.205v - 4.5ghz, prime95 load temps are about 56c. I've read the silver arrow, noctua, and phanteks all perform very close to one another.

I'd say it should work fine for, just as well as an H80 or H100 on low/med. The Silver Arrow & Noctua D14 are the two best Air coolers, Amirite? At least when I look at the SB Overclocking club, and sort by speed or voltage, the top Air cooled stable results are all done with those 2 coolers.

Because I originally posted here, and THEN realized since I was asking about a specific CPU, I should have posted in the Intel section instead, this section of the forums doesn't get as much traffic as the Intel CPU section does...and since there is no way to delete this on my own...figure a moderator would have come along and erased it by now
