960T OCing Advice

Thread Starter
The OCing guide says the real Thuban power lies in the CPU/NB frequency. Finally got my CPU/NB stable at 2615, but I had to bump it to 1.3v. Can't seem to get it any higher, even at 1.4v. Any suggestions?

try keeping ht link down as close to 2000mhz as possible that might help with stability.
what motherboard and ram are you running?

Should be in my sig. ASUS M5A97 and G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1866. Ram is running at 1896 because my UEFI only lets me choose a speed depending on the bus speed. I can't choose any speed above 1600 without first upping the bus. Same sort of deal with the HT Link. I can't set it for whatever I want. The next lowest option is below 2000, and I didn't want to go below that.

Yeah, the next lowest setting is 1896. It's the same if I set it to Auto. You think Im better off leaving it at that? And will that hurt performance?

set your ht link to 237.81 x 8= ~1896
set your dram to 237.81 x 7= ~1665
make sure your ram has its stock voltage and timings set.
try to re-stress and if it passes,
you know that you were unstable not because of CPU-NB,
but because of either dram or ht-link.
idk if the am3+ 970 chipset likes 1866 RAM or no..might do better with 1600-ish
I set my cpu/nb voltage @ 1.375.. see how high it'll go before no POST then back it down a hair
or..bump the cpu/nb voltage some..it's all good :thumb.gif:
Here's a good guide biggrin.gif
http://www.overclock.net/t/777378/official-gappos-little-deneb-thuban-overclocking-guide-with-too-many-smileys/0_20
also..I set my NB voltage @ 1.26
and
NB 1.8 voltage @ 1.9
PS Sometimes you can set the HT link (also set the voltage for this @ 1.25-1.2625)to same as IMC (cpu/nb)

It's stable now. You mean lower the HT Link and RAM and up the NB, then re-test?

The RAM has never been an issue. I've had multiple stable OCs w/ RAM @ 1896. Im only having problems now that Im changing the NB and HT Link.

yes but do one at a time to make sure that you isolate what could be causing the issue.
like schmuckley said, try the ram first at 1665 and if its still a no go try it at the next notch down.
if that doesnt help stabilize you at a higher cpu-nb then try lowering ht-link one notch down.
if thats still a no go you can try setting nb and nb 1.8 voltage like schmuckly suggested but
I never had to when I was overclocking my 960T on my ta990fxe

Ok. I'll give it a shot and try for NB @ 2844. I'll let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow. Will lowering the HT Link drop performance much?
Thanks.
