[BSON] AMD Counter-Attacks GeForce GTX 670, Questions NVIDIA's Kepler Availability - Page 19

I don't think this article paints a fair picture. As the data is biased towards AMD/Intel and is leaving out a large segment of Nvidias market just to show favoritism towards the other two, heavily towards AMD. First we need to understand that Nvidia plays in 3 major areas....

Discrete desktop
Mobile
Server

Nvidia DOES NOT play in the integrated game anymore, they ditched that.

AMD plays in...

Discrete
Integrated (APU line and the like)

Yet the article, as stated at the bottom, does not include data from Servers, ARM based devices, and handhelds. The article is literally ignoring 2/3 of Nvidias target groups! How the hell is that a fair and unbiased comparison? You can't say "Let's look at who is doing well in graphics" and then say "Well for our purpose we will define graphics as just xxx". No, graphics are graphics, I don't care what device they are on.

We all know AMD is doing awesome in notebooks with their Llano APU line, and Trinity is looking even more awesome. But if we are going to compare the two companies then that has to be done evenly. Either compare AMD discrete to Nvidia discrete or AMD's entire portfolio to Nvidia's entire portfolio.

Dell Computers has them listed as in stock, why don't you trust them?

No amount of flaming is changing the fact Nvidia is winning this round , why do you think AMD bothers to put out a statement like that ? if everything was so fine and dandy thay wouldn't bother.
Like i said before all Nvidia needed to match/beat AMD offerings is GK104 , they didn't even release their mid range or true high end card , when those cards come out ....... yeah ...... AMD is sweating no doubt about that.
Why do you think Nvidia has GTX690 out already and 7990 is not even in the rumors even though AMD had 3 months lead in the 28nm GPU's ?
With TSMC giving Nvidia priority the supply shortage is going to end , not that's it's such a huge issue anyway , if you want you can get 680 or 690 just do some searching and keep a hand on the pulse ,no biggie.

Stop talking about the "performance crown." It switches almost exactly every 3 months.

Comparing generations between the two companies is just silly. The GTX680 is faster than the 7970 at stock. Okay... It released 3 months after the 7970, and 3 months later the 8970 is going to be faster than the GTX680, and then the GTX780 is going to be faster than the 8970, and then the 9870 is going to be faster than the 780, then the 880 is going to be faster than the 9870, ad nauseum.

I have to say that's a pretty low blow from AMD, but there's some truth to it.

Focusing on high-resolutions in reviews is pathetic though. I think the majority still plays on a single full HD (or lower, like me) screen. The people with eyefinity setups and 2560x1600 are a pretty small percentile I reckon.

Two things...

1) People have already purchase the GTX 670 at $399.
2) Gamers do not need, or care, about compute performance.

If AMD dropped down to that ~$320 I could see them moving a lot of stock, if not they need to be prepaid to sit on a lot of that stock, as the 670 at $399 is a hell of a card.

There's no way AMD will launch 8970 3 months from now. Maybe end of 2012 at earliest. There's always about 1 year between GPU generations. AMD and Nvidia usually launch their new cards at almost same time, there's some exceptions like original Fermi of course.

I guess that's pretty true. I the release cycles have been so weird as of late that I think I might be mixing up dates.

Bah. I hate the GPU world right now. Too many numbers and release dates. redface.gif
