The Toxic is crap because they screwed up the port config, it is no different than a standard 7970, making it lametastic. Two steps forward one back. Some idiot at Sapphire decided that 6DP config was not worth it lol. The 690 has a good port config for DVI, but I would have wanted 6DP, 6DP 6DP what is so hard to understand??

Don't count on it compute performance will become a non issue again if GK110 comes around. Also the people who got 7970'd a few months ago will probably disagree with you. The resale value of that card already dropped $70 and will probably drop another $80 after today.

Also folders are willing to spend quite some more cash for an nVidia card than an AMD equivalent so that point is moot. I noticed that I lost quite a lot of money when trying to sell AMD cards since you can't really use them aside from gaming. My nVidia cards could be used for folding, linux, CUDA accelerated CAD apps and even PhysX. I don't see that change anytime soon.

haha. AMD is just mad that the $400 GTX 670 is out performing their $479 flagship card.

Exactly, if. I hope nVidia roll out with the full GK110 and don't gimp the compute performance.

For folding the GTX670 / 680 are not great buys at the moment either. According to Anand's review the 670 is the same speed as, and the 680 is only slightly faster (6%) than, the 580 for folding:

46450.png

Given that you can pick up 580's fairly cheap right now I would get some of those if I were a hardcore folder. True on a PPD / Watt front the 6xx cards win, but on a PPD / $ basis the older gen is still very relevent.

Still, either card is better than AMD for folding; AMD have never been great at that. BOINC on the other hand... sonic.gif

Instead of just plain PR, I wish AMD would decrease prices (at least the 7950, most reviews do say that 670 is nicely better than the 7950 and both priced at 399) and also release the 7990 soon.

Only thing I never understood was, 7870 at $350, that's just insane. 7870 to $300, 7850 to $220, 7950 to $350 would be perfect.
