I don't see the 7970 dropping below $350, awesome if it did, but I do see the 7950 dropping below it and that would be awesome as well. I don't care what you say the 7950 runs any game out there just fine, especially for the many of us at 1920x1080 on a single display. Truthfully the 7850 is enough these days.

Also folders are willing to spend quite some more cash for an nVidia card than an AMD equivalent so that point is moot. I noticed that I lost quite a lot of money when trying to sell AMD cards since you can't really use them aside from gaming. My nVidia cards could be used for folding, linux, CUDA accelerated CAD apps and even PhysX. I don't see that change anytime soon.

Compute performance of GK110 is irrelevant in todays market.
7970 had no competitor, so they marked up the price over suggested retail. That's what happens when you buy initial release, top dog performers.

OpenCL is here. No longer can Nvidia try and corner the market with CUDA. Times change. Also, how many PPD do GTX 670/680 get folding? rolleyes.gif

performance
690>680>670>7970>7950.

While pricing it goes 690>680=7970>7950>670.

7970 needs to come down to about $400 for it to be worth it compared to the 670/680 at this point in the game.

Still not buying AMD.
post #289 of 532
Nvidia releases low end parts with low volume and prices it at ultra high end. AMD prices mid-range parts with higher volume at ultra high end.

Loser = customers

I do not see how people can feel good about buying these overpriced products and feel so vehement about each brand.

AMD and Nvidia let us down this generation.
