Above 60 fps how much does the user have ability to differentiate performance. Whereas at 2560 x 1600 and multi monitor gaming 5760 X 1080 these cards are really pushed to their limits

Look at the min fps at 5760 x 1080. 4 fps (25%) . Thats significant. BF3 is a game which Nvidia does relatively better.
If you look at the most bandwidth demanding games like Metro 2033 and Crysis Warhead .

FYI thats a ref HD 7970 (925 Mhz ) against a GTX 680 (1100 Mhz Turbo) in the above charts. Clock for clock the HD 7970 will be much faster. Factory OC versions like MSI HD 7970 Lightning will take the GTX 680 / 670 to the cleaners. smile.gif

And why is that exactly? Anybody who wants a slower card is free to get a 670! biggrin.gif

Yesterday i got e mail from scan.co.uk announcing arrival of GTX670 and i checked availability of all 6xx series , all of them are available GTX670/680/690 from more than one manufacturer so AMD is basically trolling.
Also GTX670 matching/outperforming 7970 is adding to the AMD drama ..... just wait for GTX660Ti and watch AMD apologists stumble over one another biggrin.gif

On the side note ........ i remember AMD fanboys back in the day saying "So what Nvidia has Cuda and GPU computing , we buy GPU's to play games" and now they're saying "So what Nvidia is better at gaming we have better GPU compute" doh.gif

If you took off your fanboy glasses, you'd realize the 670 offers COMPARABLE (maybe slightly worse) performance to the 7970 for $70 less. The average consumer won't notice the difference. If you honestly believe AMD can continue without some sort of price drop, you are a true fanboy.

AMD has vastly superior compute at the cost of slightly lower gaming performance. The overall winner there is pretty obvious. Also, AMD has always (at least going back to 4xxx) had the better theoretical compute... they were just difficult to code for.

Besides, AMD's focus now is on compute because of HSA. Gaming is of secondary importance at the moment to them. You can pretend all you want that gaming is the only thing that matters, but if Nvidia doesn't get into heterogeneous computing, they're going to find themselves bankrupt quick.

One shop having 680s and 690s in stock does not mean anything, FYI. Even if 680s are suddenly available, they will be sold out shortly. AMD's statement is not even remotely irrelevant.

I do think it's quite humorous that the biggest fanboys on the site are also the quickest ones to call everyone else a fanboy.

Don't forget about the power consumption! Oh how the tables have turned. Then again, GK104 still is a mid-range chip.

Hmm! Computing.

That means the GTX 680 is a moot point. Also, this card is not marketed towards the AVERAGE CONSUMER. At $400-500, the price point is anything but average. There's nothing fanboyish about his statement. He's right on the money. The GTX 670 is generally slower than the HD 7970. Sure the GTX 670 Direct CU II is faster, but it's also faster than the GTX 680 too. Also, it will probably be a very expensive card, but we won't know that until it's released into the consumer market.

Nvidia just cannibalized itself with the GTX 670. Not a very smart business move if you ask me. The company that instigates a price war is usually the one that has the most to lose.

Are you sure abou tthe 690? they're sold out everywhere. Maybe they have more in the UK, but here in the US, there's none whatsoever.

Only one manufacturer left , it's a weekend so it was to be expected but they were available whole week and i bet there will be more on Monday.
Also check 670 and 680 they are available no problem , I've just checked and couple other stores in UK have them as well , as i said AMD is basically trolling.
