It isn't a moot point, and no I was never throwing it around as if retailers dropped it to that price. At no point did I bring retailers into the conversation at all, you are just plain lying to yourself if you think so....
Here, this is everything I have said in regards to the guys situation......

The reality of it is the 7970 will drive anything you are realistically going to want to do with your system, no problem. You are also buying it for $100 less than the closest competitor, the hard to find GTX 670.
Had I been in your shoes I don't think I could have thrown my wallet at him fast enough...

I don't care how much one likes Nvidia, a 7970 at $300 is the deal of the generation right now. Heck, even if the GTX 670 drew 100w less and was 20% better in performance the 7970 is still $100 cheaper and will run any game just fine.

A couple of us told him in a polite way that he would be an idiot to not do it, while this other guy is telling him to just buy a 670 as it is "better".
I don't care what graph, chart, or if Santa Clauses says so, the 7970 at $300 is an insane deal and only a dunce would pass it up.
So at which point, in anything I said, did I bring retailers into it? The first quote of mine I am very specific on the purchase! The second one was in response to you throwing biased charts at it, trying to say how superior the 670 is.
My third quote is, again, very specific and even details the situation for someone else.
So I ask you again, where was I bringing the retailer in on it? The answer is that I never did! You simply jumped midway into a conversation and made assumptions as to what was being discussed at the moment. Now to save face you are trying to point the finger at me as if I was somehow not clear in what I was saying, even though in 2 of my 3 quotes pertaining to the situation was very specific.
